Is hydrolock a risk if you remove intake resonator?

I have read threads until my head hurts and I can not get what I feel is a definate answer to this question. Many people have said that installing a K&N fliter and removing the intake resonator is nearly as good of gains as the icebox and AEM, etc. For a $200 difference, I may not mind losing a bit by going with the K&N setup and spending more $$ on other things.

That being said, I do not want to risk hydrolock on my car. It is my daily driver and I have to drive in the rain often. Not too many puddles, but sometimes hard rain on the highway. Am I at risk if I remove the resonator? I know the icebox has a bypass for this problem. Any other way to protect myself if I want to go K&N and no resonator?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I highly highly doubt it, I have a CT icebox (which I would argue is a fair comparison) and since I live in S. FL you know we get a ton of rain! While I avoid puddles as often as I can, I have gone through a couple large ones and had no problem at all. Ive also driven where there 50+ mph winds during a rain storm and no problem there ethier.

if you do get hydro lock with it removed you will probably have a flooded interior as well as a locked engine. then again if you drove through something that deep you deserve the damage. take it off and enjoy!!

As blunt as this is, I agree. If you intentionally drive through a deep puddle, you are asking for trouble.

Thank all of you for the great advice. I feel much better about it now, as I have lousy luck with stuff like this most of the time. I will try to get it done in the next week or so.

Yes. Only if the water gets to the bottom of the airbox though. And by then you will have other serious problems if water got that high.

Little off subject but Comptech has a bypass on their icebox? I've never seen this on their diagrams....could someone point this out?

I have an AEM CAI and as you know, it routes the filter behind the bumper cover and closer to the ground.

A few months ago, we had some flooding up here and I had to drive through deep water to get out of there. I seriously was worried about hydro lock since having the CAI. I just drove it very slow, basically a little over idle through the water and had no problems.

With that being said, I say you would have no problem at all!!! With the resonator removed, the hole for the filter box is a lot higher off the ground than the CAI would be. As everyone said, if you are that deep in water, then you have other problems to worry about than hydro lock...
