how tight is to tight?

After having the S/C for only about 2 weeks. I am realizing that my boost is going down through sec gear. more specifically @ 2nd gear, WOT from 4k RPM and up. first gear not as much and in third all the boost is there. Yes I do know that the belt must be tightend but how tight is to tight? I have already adjusted it a few times and still the boost goes away in 2nd gear 4k and up. ill gun it and the boost will read about 6 LBS but then the boost will gradually go down to about 2lbs or so, until it hits third gear. In third gear however the boost stays pinned @ about 5-6 lbs. to me it sound like the belt is still to loose. Before I tighten it again I just want to know if I can damage anything by tightening it and Also if anyone can give me a tip on how tight to tension the belt. Thank you all.

As per Shad at CompTech...

Twist the belt to test for tightness between you fingers. Any more than a 90 degree twist is too loose, any less than a 45 degree twist is too tight.

well I tightend it much more then I was doing and all the boost came back. but then shortly after it started to slip away again. I probably just need to tighten it a lot more then I thought.

alrady happend to me. But in my case is was the bearing that seazed in the tension pulley. I had a alluminum tension pulley made and its working out ok. first of its kind im sure. so now ill know that that particular pulley will not melt anymore.

The belt shouldn't feel any tighter than your other two belts.

Ok. Gotchya. I was thinking that but wasn't sure. So as long as the belt is about as tight as the other belt on the HBP then I should be alright. That is a great way to gauge it. Thanks MrSteve.

I haven't had to re-tighten mine for over 23k miles. I just check it's tightness every other fuel stop. I also check the belt for wear on the grooves.

I'm running a slightly larger belt so it took us a while to get it dialed in to the correct tension, I think we've got it this time though.
