How often do you guys drive in SS. . . .
I always drive in SS, even in traffic. This shouldn't cause problems in the future right? I mean I would assume Acura would make it durable enough to be driven in this mode all the time. About the only time I put it in D5 is when it's on its way to SS mode. . .

Less than 5%, it's just not very pracctical and I hate imitation anything, especially in cars. There is no alternative to a manual and no point in trying to drive an auto like one. I've used it in real hilly areas-which there are plenty of around here, but nowhere else. It's slow and unresponsive, and we have a fine 5 spd. auto to begin with so why bother with the hassle of moving a stick up or down in traffic??
D5? Oh that's that position somebody mistakenly put forces me to use to get to SS. Naw, I use SS umm....let's see...ahhh...all the freakin time. %97.3002312234523184 of the time I'm in SS.

Hi all,
I only use SS when I'm in twisty bits of road. I want to be able to hold the trans in a lower gear so that I have more control via engine braking & acceleration, than if I leave it in D5 (where it's invariably in too high a gear; numerically).
Re a couple of the other replys:
Last time I floored the car off the line (not in SS) it stayed in 1st 'till redline anyway so I don't see the advantage of using SS there.
I don't think you'll be able to achieve better gas mileage by using SS. If you're using a higher gear than full auto would give you, you're probably bogging the engine when you accelerate, forcing you to press the gas pedal further, resulting in worse gas mileage, not better.
I think the trans has been designed for optimum shifting "for all-round driving" in full auto mode, to give you adequate acceleration & optimum gas mileage & you only really need SS when you're driving aggresively on twisty roads. My favorite past-time

I use D4 and D5 more since it stays in 1st longer (see post). SS mode shifts to 2nd too soon, even when floored. Wished it held in each gear- SS is a placebo for the real deal, only useful in mountain driving..... IMHO.

i use the SS mode like 85 percent of the time, but i use it like always on the highway, i love passin cars in d4 and even sometimes in d3. Sfl higways u can cruise at lke 85 at the daytime and when im drivnin home from gf house at 2am, i cruise at about 100 or soo in SS mode just in case the radar goes off and have to make a quick drop in speed. the only thing i wish is that we had control of d2 and d1, maybe in the next updated cl-s.

You know...why is there even a manual transmission anyway? It seems to me that before there was automatic, there was manual and that was the technology of the day. Then along came automatic and now there's SS. What besides cost and consumer demand is stopping manual transmission from becoming obsolete?
Keep in mind that even things that can't be exactly duplicated in other forms still can go obsolete.

Hey, I'm just asking for the manual tranny lovers out there. I owned:
1987-1990 Integra LS - manual tranny
1990-1999 Integra GS - manual tranny
That's 12 years of Acura manual transmission. It was fun, but I don't miss it one bit. All that work just to get around town, what a waste.
Just my opinion.

yeah, you're right about it being convenient to have an automatic--i just wish there was a better option that would let us use both (and i don't know what it would be except maybe for some 'extra' pedal popping up out of the floor

I use SLUSH SHIFT only about 10% of the time.
After driving manual transmission cars exclusively for the last 17-years, I really miss having total control over the engine.
I actually take my wife’s 5-Speed Integra to work once in a while so I don’t forget how much fun it is to REALLY drive.

I don't find myself using SS as much as the Auto-Stick in my last car. It just doesn't seem as responsive. I basically use it for highway merging and that's about it. It probably gets used 5% or less. However, maybe with time I will grow to like it better.
