How Much is it Worth: 2001 CL-S Automatic

Hello everyone, just recently joined, name is Nick.
I have a CL-S that I would like to sell and wanted to get opinion of those on here of what it is worth, before selling.

2001 CL-S Automatic
97,651 miles
Car was hit at left rear wheel and fixed; was written off from my insurance company.
Engine cranks but does not start. Last time engine works was roughly 1-1.5 year ago when body shop relocated the car. Car is still at body shop currently.
Total of 3 owners including me, to my knowledge.
Current location: Orange County, CA. (Westminster)

Thanks.

Most of your money is coming from the engine and a few other parts.
You may get lucky and find someone that wants the whole interior for their Accord(6GA), but that is doubtful.

It is just scrap metal now. Should have totaled it from accident and been done with it.

Noone wants a Cl shell, especially a damaged one.

Is that for one door or both? Because the transmission alone is above $500 acura cl type s transmission | eBay

Your recommendations of parting it out will no doubt net the most money. If I have time, I would definitely go that route. I'm thinking in terms of selling the whole thing as is to save time and effort. Any numbers you can guess? I'm wondering if under $2k is reasonable. The car obviously needs a new rear bumper and likely new gas pump to function.

As mentioned in the original post, the car was written off. It was by the insurance company of the person who hit my car (not my insurance, mistake on the original post).

Transmission was fully functional before the crash. The engine is the part not running -- was fully functional before and after the crash and only stopped working roughly 1.5 year ago.

no one would buy that for over one thousand. If someone offered you 500 you should take it and run. Fully functional automatic CLs that haven't had a major accident would maybe sell for $2,000.

If you part the entire car out yourself I'd be surprised if you could make $2,000 seeing as the car's engine is toast and the transmission is crap.

Again, the engine is the part not functioning now, from having sat around for a while, probably from dried-up fuel pump or something else. Up to that point, both transmission and engine were working after the crash, when the car was relocated from one shop to another, after the axel was fixed. So which part of the description made you logically come up with the conclusion the transmission is crap?

With the auto trans, it's usually only a matter of time before it goes.
There are more stories of ones that have been replaced(multiple times), than not.
Anyone who knows their V6 Hondas from 98-05, would not be wise to purchase a used auto tranny, that hasn't had any refurbishing done.

If they are indeed crap like you said, I would think most of these transmission listings would be around $300. I mean these are from multiple sellers, most of them have over 4k feedbacks (sales), one has over 16k. I assume they are not dumb.

Thanks for the opinion.

Don't ask for advice if you already know it all then.

Why don't you just list it at what you think it's worth rather than ask but not accept advice?

You think it's worth 500, list it as such!

One man's junk is another man's treasure.
List it and see if you can get what you want for it.
There is always someone willing to buy something.

That part I agree, they're not known making strong transmissions. The part I wonder is, how much the transmission is worth used at under 98k miles. The info I'm getting are based on simple search from ebay listings, but I'm sure it doesn't give an accurate value until I do more searches. (acura cl type s transmission | eBay)

Ebay isn't really reliable, because people can list things for whatever price they want.

Try checking on car-part.com to get an idea as to what yards are selling similar tranny's for.

Far from it. If I knew it all, I wouldn't be asking for opinion.

The thing is though, I need to sort out the logical opinion from the ones that simply has "crap" in it.

I will list it for what I think it's reasonable for sure, after some research and getting some more opinion, hopefully logically informative ones like yours. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

I'm on kijiji all the time as well as carpart.com looking at used CL and TLs so I'm well aware of what the going rate is for these cars. Yours was totalled by insurance and hasn't been started in a long time and is automatic. If someone is going to buy the whole car it would probably be to part it out and not fix it up. That person has to spend their time and labour to remove parts. The engine would be a bigger ticket item but that's a tough sell from what you say it's condition is. Same for the trans. How would that person make any money if they bought it for $2,000? If someone offers you more than $500 I'd take it. That's not illogical.

The CLs I see for sale on kijiji with a blown trans go for $500-700 usually to give you an idea. I know your trans was running, but you motor is not, so that evens out.

If you want to make the most money, part it out yourself. I'm just being honest that I can't see anyone paying more than $500 for that car. But if you still disagree, then go post it for $2,000 and see what happens. You have nothing to lose.

Sadly the trans really isn't worth much if you're going to be honest. Not only was it already on borrowed time as it had 96k on it but now it has sat for the last 2 years. So that coupled with the fact that the engine doesn't run, brakes are shot, tires are probably dry rot, and the rear is a mess isn't going to net you much $$$ at all.
