how much mileage to break in a cl type s?
#3
Dunno... never broke it in!! I was at the track at ~500 miles and it ran a 14.1 How you drive it the first week really makes the car what it is later. Drive it slow... it will always be slow. Drive it hard.... it will always fly! I have followed this motto through all the cars I have owned and it hasn't let me down. These motors are broken in from the factory. Do you think the guy driving it off the ship babies it? Only the clutch, brakes etc. need breaking in!

You might end up getting a loose motor, but I'd hate to see people lugging the car around at 2000 RPM at 20-miles.
The owner’s manual says 600-miles and there are some considerations about the break-in that also impact the longevity of the motor...
The "break-in" stuff reminds me of the which oil is best topic...

The manual says 600 miles. I kept the revs up (3000-5000) for the first 600 and never did any "full throttle" acceleration runs. I did however make a few "spirited" runs tho' Make sure that you don't stay at the same rpm for long. Vary the rpms by using different gears. DON'T lug the engine.
I've got 1000 miles on mine now, and I've bounced it off the rev limiter a couple of times recently (have to get my 1st-2nd gear timing down). I think my engine is ready for anything now, and the sweet spot from 4800-redline is a nice place to be
BTW, despite what the manual says, the saleman at the dealership told me that there was no break in period.
