how many pistons is stock front caliper

searched a bit and doesn't seem like we got a definite answer.

It appears the AV6'rs have a single piston, but are able to upgrade to a a dual compliments of an NSX or Legend.

I Can't imagine us only have 1 piston front calipers, but it wouldn't be the first time Acura suprised me.

it's true... i've found 3 people saying the stock CL caliper is a single piston...

I see no reason that we can't do the same upgrade that the AV6's are doing...

sounds like for $120 we can new dual piston Legend calipers.

The legend calipers also seem to be more desired since one of the piston's is larger then on NSX.

A TL caliper piston (assuming 45mm diameter) has a piston surface area of 1590 sq mm. The Legend caliper pistons have a TOTAL surface area of 2512 sq mm (40mm x 2) (158% more) and 2267 sq mm (38mm x 2) (143% more) while the NSX calipers have a TOTAL surface area of 2034 mm (36 mm X 2) (128% more).

Yep...1 good-sized piston, rather than 4 slightly smaller pistons.

True Beerknurd however the pistons are not a real piston .In fact they are hollow so only the edges of the piston apply pressure to the inner brake pad .This fact coupled with the fact that the brake pad has a steel backing allows the pressure to be concentrated on a ring rather than a total surface area .Knowing that the steel in the brake pads is not the strongest this may be why Brembo etc. use multi piston designs .Multi piston designs apply the pressure over more area of the steel backing plate evening out the pressure on the pad material .This in turn means more stopping power .At least that is how I see it .
