how many miles before changing mobil 1 oil?
just curious to see how many miles ppl are changin their mobil 1 oil at...
i'm currently changing it at 7k intervals...i'm at 22.5kmiles right now, last change was around 16k....
is it safe to assume that mobil 1 will last longer since it is synthetic and costs so much more than regular oil?

You will hear lots of conflicting opinions on this one. I change every 10,000 with Mobil 1 synthetic. I have a few friends with BMW and Mercedes, and the on-board computer monitors the engine oil quality and a light comes on when it's time to change the oil. They usually go around 13,000-15,000 miles before having to change their oil. When I changed my oil after 10,000 miles of synthetic, it was still clean, I could have gone longer. I'd suspect our Honda engines run at LEAST as cleanly as these BMW/Merc engines.

I've been using Mobil 1 synthetic for some time now. I've alwayed changed my oil at every 3K and been using Chevron Premium gas ever since I first had my CLS. But I've never gone over 5K. Because even though its synthetic after 5K it loses its lubrication properties. Synythetic is known for traping contaminants and carbon build-up. So if u keep ur oil in after 5K imagine how much crap is in that oil flowing through the engine.
PS Do the job urself u'll get more satisfaction. And do the right thing and dispose of the used oil properly, at ur local autoparts store, they except used oil.

As for synthetic which i use... i hear from everyone to change it every 5k miles, which i do. I dont know how you guys can go 15k without changing oil... CHEAP ASSES!! :P :P

5k as well.
I do it at 5k as well. For those that go beyond the factory interval of 7500, you may run into warranty problems if anything goes wrong internally. Of course, for those of us who change oil ourselves, it would be difficult to prove any interval.
I have 4 cars all on Mobil 1 and drove them all to 120,000 miles with no problems and little to no oil consumption.
Also remember, the filters (even the best) are still only good for between 5k and 7500 miles. Oil still moves contaminents to the filer so if your going 10k or more, you should be changing the filter somewhere in between.
I like the Bosch premium or Honda filters.

No seriously, look in your manual, it says every 7,500 miles. Of course, it can't hurt to change it earlier. Just like it doesn't hurt to use premium gas in a car that only requires regular gas. It's just a waste of money IMHO.
Hell, I know some people who change their oil every 2,500 or 2,000 miles. It doesn't hurt the car of course, just their pocketbooks.

I go 4-5 K and then change it out along with a premium oil filter---doing the change in my garage nets me out at about the same price as having someone do it for me. But I know the engine is getting the best protection it can---esp. important for that first start in the am.....have never gone above 5k for an oil change on this car or any other....guess thats why my wife's accord is 9 years old with 125K and shows no signs of oil consumption

Hey, if enough time goes by, or the stuff looks dirty enough -- just change it. My corner Shell station does the job for 10 bucks while I get to stare under the car ( ! supply the Honda filter and Mobil 1)
Don't forget about lots of cold starts and short drives impacting the need to dump the oil and filter (and the junk in the oil and filter)...

I change every 3-4K. Using Mobil-1. Gotta keep it old fashioned!!!
I didn't break 65mph until about 1100 miles!!! (now that's harder to do, than gettting rid of morning wood)

I just did my first oil change yesterday.
The car is now on Mobil 1 and I plan to change it again every 5000 miles. I know I can probably wait a lot longer but I just like knowing that the oil will always be pretty clean.
As for filters, I don't know much about them, but the one I put in was made by Valvoline. If anyone sees any problems let me know, but I'm not sure how much it will make a difference in the long run.
My only question is, how do you turn of the maintenance required light.

My conclusion was to use Amsoil 5w30 with their filter and change every 10k. Other engineers on this board will debate who has the best synthetic. It's like debating the best grade of diamonds, very hard to quantify, most are very very good.
STP filters are very good and only cost $2.88. Note they are exactly the same as MOBIL1 ($9.99) and are made by the same manufacture. They do this to keep the factory running at max. Which means greater profits. Also MOBIL1 is very good synthetic but not the best.

Oil Filter Concerns
I don't know why you guys would go more than 5K after ur last oil change?
Sure synthetic can go that long but what about the oil filter.
Personally I don't thing that any oil finter can go after 3K. I believe that after 3K the oil filter is used up.
So remember that the oil is not the only thing that anyone who changes thier oil should be concerned about, it's the oil filter too.
So untill manufactures come out with a synthetic oil filter that can go with our synthetic oil then mabey you should start changing ur oil + oil finter every 3K.
Or if ur a cheap ass just change the oil finter every 3,750 miles and add a quarter bottle of oil the first time. That way u can really get to those 7K oil changes alittle more safer.

It all depends on how and where U drive.
I drive mostly hi-way (65mile round trip), so I figure about 6k oil change for me. And if I'm lazy, I push to 7k.
The oil can take the miles, it's just the dirt and gunk are the problem. So maybe you can get away with changing the filter only. But since you have the car up anyways, mite as well change the oil.

AMSOIL makes filters and filter systems for synthetic oil. Read tech info at www.amsoil.com. I am looking for any data that disproves some of the claims that amsoil makes. I can't seem to find anything put out by other manufactures. Soooo for now it's Amsoil products changed at 10k which is half the time they say I need to change my oil. Except they say change the filter at 12k. I'm at 8k on my present oil and it still looks clean, note I changed the filter at 5k and then added 0.25 qt. Synthetic oil is very very good it's just going to take us some time to really believe it.
