How Many Hours to Swap Transmission?

I am going to pick up my car tomorrow and all they basicaly did was order a new stock tranny and replace my VR stage III Trany ( ). I was wondering how many "shop hours" would be reasonable time wise. Thanks.

Most places should be able to do it in a day to two days tops. Most of the down time people have with tranny swaps is just waiting for the unit to come in. Otherwise, this is as common to the techs as oil changes

Probably less time than a timing belt change.

Okay sounds good. I tihnk I am going to have to end up arguing with them. I will have to see the invoice first. I am trying to get a hold on the billable hours part.

The built tranny didn't last huh? Unfortunately I can't say that is the first I've heard that happening.

There's a shop in NJ that I heard does pretty good work on transmissions. They are called IPT Performance Transmissions. There website is http://www.ipttrans.com.

I've heard that some of the Acura Mechanics have gotten so good at swaps that they can do it in less than that.

There's 2 guys at my Acura dealership that do transmission replacements all day, every day. They do 3-4 cars a day.

Next time i'm there i'll take a picture of all the transmissions sitting outside in crates. There's like 20 of 'em.

Mtbrke, I looked at the pictures of your car, that thing is sick. How much hp does it make and what kind of 1/4 times have you gotten?

It pulls nice. Seems a little doggier for a few. Therefore I would say there is noticeable lag over the super charger but it sounds meaner. Also after 5Krpm it becomes insane. It feels scary. It also seems to stay in the high RPMS with WOT for a much longer time which is scary becomes the car just keeps going faster. Scary in a new and very good way. Btw Speed Distributors (or VR) did nothing to remedy the busted tranny or the repeated codes that it kept throwing time after time sending the car into safe more. The new stock tranny seems to be doing well and shifts smoothly on its own. Oh yeah and my rev. limiter is gone.. I think. This maybe now explain which it seems to stay in the vtec range for a long time. It is great!

Makes sense to me.

The car has about 57K miles on it an about 20 miles on the new tranny. The first stock tranny never broke and did quite well. I should have never "upgraded"

Kinda sucks they bailed on you..... did they warranty the tranny for like a year or something and the 1 year expired or what?

I know for a fact they are out of Business.

i hope you have better luck with this new tranny. making that much whp with the turbo you should flush every 10k to 15k miles using 20+ quarts with the machine they have at any dealership.

Make sure you break that new transmission in just like you would a new engine. No boosting for 500 miles!

QUOTE] Yeah I that was they stated terms but later they said it was actualy through the tranny shop next to their old location which the warranty was through. Anyways I kept calling them during the first year about the codes and "hard" shifts when putting the car into reverse. They kept saying that all the sensors were stock and therefore it shouldn't be having a problem. The codes were something like P01701 and P01710 or something in that range. I just dropped my car for at Scottsdale Acura because the AC doesn't work and I seem to be missing my wheel wells.
