i would like to know the answer to this question myself....alot of dealerships are rip offs, and you have to be careful with some small shop mechanics, its so hard to find an honest job these days

also around what mileage should i worry about changing the belts, and flushing the system....80k miles?

In reality it only takes a good tech 1 to 1.5 hours to replace a timing belt. By the book it says 4.3 hours. Water pump included in the job. THis is via a Honda tech. Same difference.
Yes it is doable without a hoist.

It is for a practiced hand an easy job to do even without a hoist .

I had an Audi 90 just 4 months ago and the timing belt job on that car was like 6 hours or something. plus overly expensive parts that ripped a new hole in my wallet. cost me a fortune to keep that car running all the time. in 2 years owning that Audi I spent about $5000-6000 cdn just to keep it running. (no performance mods)

That's why I am wondering if it's possible to do the job myself. However because it's timing belt I don't wanna fuck up the timing. gotta be careful.

This is why you dont ever buy a Euro Car!!!!! Mercedes Brake Pads cost me 500 for front and 400 for rear, and I replaced the pads myself. If the dealer did the job they charge 1500.
Dont get me wrong alot of Euro cars look really nice and are fast, but to me it doesnt justify the routine problems and expensive costs

I was told people were paying around $700 for a timing belt/water pump replacement.

Parts are less than $150. The only reason to replace the water pump is because you have to remove it anyways to get the timing belt off. Might as well replace it then rather than another 20k miles down the road. Technically you could swap the belt for about $20, it's the pump that costs around $110-130.
