How important are shocks/struts?

I plan on getting comptech springs with the 19's rims. How important is it that I get shocks/struts? There the same thing with different names, just the front and rear right? Is one more important than the other? Thanks for any suggestions.

you can ride on the stock shocks for a lil, but not to long cuz youll blow them. there are quite a few brands you can get: tokico, koni, etc. (best to do a search) and when you do replace them dont just replace the front or rear, do all of them.

also think about coilovers. they might be expensive but well worth it.

cl-s has shocks. yes w/ better shocks your car will ride, handle and perform better. but you can certainlyt get by w/ the stock shocks and comptech springs.

I say the stock shocks will last about 20-30K miles. Maybe less, depending on road conditions. Anyways, I agree with PiMpiN wHITe Cl-S. Invest in some coilovers. Well worth it.

Ive had my aftermarket springs on stock shocks for 20k miles...I am just starting to feel the harsher ride that would indicate that I need to replace the shocks (Im going w/ Coilovers personally)...But save up for a while...You'll be OK for a year or so.

You made the switch to tein from comptech? How much harsher is the ride? Would you mind giving a quick pro\con list or review?

As many have said before, lowering will significantly decrease the life of the stock shocks. Aftermarket shocks will also perform a lot better in terms of handling.

The strongest argument in favor of replacing the shocks at the same time as the springs is the fact that the shocks have to be removed to install the springs. In other words, you should not have to pay any additional labor to install the shocks. If you wait to change shocks later, your bill for labor will be considerable.

this is actually the reason I replaced mine. it was a last minute decision and I had to have the shocks overnighted to get them here by the spring install they pull out the shocks to install the springs .. so it doesnt cost anymore in labor for them to replace them with different ones. if you decided to replace them later down the road, which you will .. whether it be because the stock ones blew or because you want better handling\performance .. you will have to pay for them to remove the lowering springs all over again, and install new shocks. it will be like paying for the spring install all over again.

Hey notcreative! You might want to do some research before you buy the SKUNK 2 coilovers. From what I heard, they begin to sag a little too much later on and you'll have to adjust. As for tokicos, they perform like stock shocks. If you plan to keep the comptech springs, go with the yellow konis.

the spring and shock are matched for a good comprimise of performance and comfort in most cases.

There is heigh adjustability, and in some cases rebound, compression and dampening adjustability as well.

cost...depends what you get, but in any case it will be more than springs/shocks bought separately unless you get something super custom.

I wouldn't say that. I have CT\tokico and its a considerable difference between CT\stock. I've ridden in a CT\stock car. Much more controlled with tokico, less bounce, better rebound, tad stiffer. obviously not the stiffness and control of Koni's but I'd hardly say stock.
