How does dynamat effect exhaust noise?

Those with dynamat or some type of sound dampning in the trunk, how does it effect the exhaust in the cabin?

im getting tired of the drone noise from the comptech exhaust i was thinking maybe covering the bottom of the trunk with dynamat and maybe under the rear seats too.

do you think this will help block out some off the exhaust noise?

yes...especially the rear fenderwell area this is where most of the cabin noise comes from.but at the same time you might get the inserts that comptech sells...

well i was thinking of the quiet tips

but since lowering my car theres a little bit more of road noise and i also plan on getting some subs so i figure i could kill two birds with one stone by just using dynamat instead...

Yea just line your trunk..take out the back seats and back panels and line all that. But don't use dynamat..its kind of a ripoff. Use like raamat..thats what i use and its so easy to put on. Roof felt works for under oyur seats real well--u can get that from home dept..but its a bit hard. Theres these other brands like brown bread and b-quiet bu they're kinda expensive. oh and cascade..but never used that either :p

70+ bucks for a trunk kit that doesnt even cover your whole trunk. Then you need a heat gun to install it... Then pieces loosen when your car is sitting in heavy heat? I'd consider anything that has an equivalent cheaper alternative a ripoff.

Comptech's a ripoff..but too bad there's no cheaper equivalent alternative. But dynamat by far isn't the best/only tihng out there.

www.cascadeaudio.com

plus dynamat is thick and heavy. these guys make deadening materials that are thinner, lighter and have better adhesion.

There are lots of alternatives to Dynamat. I had Accumat by Scosche on my Accord a few years back. It stayed put A LOT better than Dynamat. Stinger also has some sound deadening products. rec.audio.car is a good newsgroup to check out (via google if you don't have a newsgroup server). I know there are like half a dozen or so companies at least that make this kind of stuff. Dynamat just happens to market towards car audio enthusiasts, which = $$

There's also some stuff called "gator skin" or something like that. It actually works better than dynomat and is cheaper. I'm not sure where to get it though. It looks like asphalt in a thick paper.

Cascade is by far the best. I did my whole trunk, rear deck, trunk lid and door panels. The stuff sticks like crazy. And, BEST OF ALL.....

It doesn't have any odor. Dynamat stinks.

BTW, this will do nothing to reduce the drone from the Comptech exhaust. The quiet tips get rid of the drone altogether. Sounds almost like stock, except at WOT.

Is dynamat that bad? I checked it out in a store, did not smell like much. Is newer dynamat different? Or does it take heat to cause the odor?

Well long story short, I had to do my back doors with the original Dynamat. Everytime I open my sunroof the smell wafts through my car. On a hot day, it smellls pretty bad. Gonna re-do my rear doors very soon.

I agree. If the sound bothers you that much, why not get the quiet tip inserts instead of going through all that?
