How does CAI sound differ in cars.
How does CAI sound differ in cars.
Hey guys, i helped my friend install a CAI in his 4 cyl Lx Civic. Well i'm pretty impressed with the results. His car is much deeper sounding at about 3.5grand. then i do feel a little bit more power in the upper revs, granted he doesn't have VTEC so maybe it's not that much. My questions is that i heard it was meant to scream up high. It's more throaty and deep than anything. My friends rsx-s is much louder in the upper rpms. But overall it's not bad. What results does a CAI yield for a 3.2 CL. Deeper sound like that, or does it realy scream since we have vtec. Also will we or him get more potential power since we have a 6 and he has a 4. Thanks Also anyone have experience with how CAI compare to the CT Icebox, i might just get that since i have a P. What do you guys thnk. Thanks
VTEC is really the key here... the cars with VTEC will scream once that RPM is hit. Cars without VTEC will obviously get loud up high.... but they won't scream like our cars do in VTEC range....
As for the IceBox... I'm reserving judgement until someone on here gets one and dynos it vs. stock. For now I have the Injen CAI and I love it.....

The "noise" and sound depend on a lot of factors...
The answer is -- it depends...
Just raising the compression and changing cams can make a HUGE difference in the sound of the intake note.
The engine configuration: I6, V6, I4, Flat-4, V10, V12, etc, etc, etc all have marked effects on the sound that is generated.
Make more HP --> Inhale more air
Inhale more air --> make more noise.
The cylinder configuration changes the pulse timing -- and in some ways can be compared to the different sounds that come from various exhaust systems.
As for the "sound" it can be soft or loud and it can be "harsh" or melodious. The "level" has nothing to do with the "tonality"/"quality" of the sound...

The sound @ vtec cam switch is something to behold.... Especially in a city (try punching it on Madison ave, NY). NICE!!!
As far as 'real world' power is concerned, the bump (IMO) is slight at best, but it is all about the look on the face of the guy next to you in the Ford Focus....
