I have been watching Xephyr2K's CAI progress and I have a ?????

After seeing the bypass valve, I have to ask, How does it work?

If the bypass valve is just a little filter then won't the engine pull some air from the engine compartment during a normal situation?

Well no, the valve is just an extra filter, however, it has rubber flaps that seal it air tight under normal driving. In the event that you submerge the filter in water a vacuum of ~15psi+ would build and the intake would attempt to draw water up the length of the induction tube, however the valves flaps open and equalize the vacuum and prevents the water from rising. Hope this helps
