How do you take off the shifter in a 6 speed?

How do you take off the shifter in a 6 speed?
Got my new shifter knob. Does the stock knob just unscrew off? Any screws? I wasn't going to try untill I know for sure.

gently tug at the boot at the base of the knob ... after the boot detaches from the knob, just unscrew.
