How do you remove staples that hold on the 03 6MT shift boot?

And how do you reinstall a new boot, do you restaple it to the white plastic ring?
Looks like a cheap-azz way to attach the boot bottom to the trim piece.

haha good one ,
well I guess I actually am wondering about the reinstall, do you just restaple? They look like industrial grade heavy-duty staples which I don't have and the plastic trim it is stapled too is pretty thick. I don't think staplers I have access to will do it. just trying to see how others have attached new boots with a similar type of install as OEM.

I'm starting not to like my boot OR my trim piece after looking at the 3rd gen TL piece.

I took the staples out, installed the new boot, and just reused the same holes with the old staples. Seemed to hold just fine. Only tricky thing is lining the staples up through the leather but no that hard.

Thanks, good to know how you did it. Did a screwdriver or knife work to remove the staples? I see dealers want over $100 for the shift boot, not sure if the trim plate is included, don't want to break it.

I plan to replace mine with real leather, hopefully perforated w/red stitching.

I used a thin flathead screw driver to slowly pry the staples out. It is not very difficult. It took me about 20 minutes to do this.

I put in the Neuspeed Short Shifter Adapter and when I fixed my boot I just used a heavy duty super glue. It hold just fine.

If not that, then I would used your old fasion staple gun. But if you do that you run the risk of crackin the plastic thatthe boot was stapled to in the first place.

But that leads me to my Question!!

When I put my Car in 3rd or 5th gear, everything pops out of place. I need a way to hold that boarder & boot in place while im driving but if I want to I can remove it, with out damaging the console around the shifter.

Any suggestions?

I used a flathead to remove and hot glue to replace. SuperGlue or LockTite might hold better. If you have an industrial stapler with bigass staples...definitely use it. Otherwise...glue it.

Where did you get a replacement boot from?

Too bad you glued your shift boot...cuz that seems that you boot is stretched out too far....get a blow dryer and loosen the glue and give your boot some more slack...

Well I found a place that will make what I want but they need me to send my stock boot in and I will not get it back. Thinking it over. The stock boot costs over $100 if I have to replace it..

If anyone's looking for a stock boot & knob, I have one that's just sitting in a box collecting dust in the garage right now.
It's from a 2003 6-Speed CLS and was only used about a month.

50-shipped

'Stealership'? My friend, only about 2,900 of these cars were built, so how many boots do you think there were? The knob is a Prelude/NSX knob... but not the boot. Are dealerships supposed to pay Honda $50 for this and sell it for $51? You are buying both parts...

Online OEM parts website is charging 177 plus shipping and they only sell them together. Not to ruin your bargain hunt Buddy but this is about what you pay for say a Momo shift knob alone (50+). Maybe you'll still be able to get a deal though. You can't spend dust! hahaha

I know you cant spend dust!! I have a Skunk2 gunmetal shift knob, just need a new boot to go with it. My OEM boot has been a POS since I bought the car---and the trim at the bottom of the boot has never been stationary, always moves when I shift....so I was just looking for a clean way to take care of both!

I actually like the OEM boot. It's a perfect size, & doesn't look worn like leather boots do after a while.

Thats the thing, the boot itself is fine....I just dont have the trim ring to attach at the top of the boot under the shift knob. Once I have that----everything else is perfect.

Any suggestions?

I would suggest picking up some zip ties. Turn the boot inside out. Put the zip tie around the top, leaving a 1/4" or so above the zip tie. Using your finger as a temp. gauge, pull the zip tie until it's loosely snug around your finger. Now go slip this over your shifter, top first, inside out. (Assuming you've removed the knob) Fold what is the bottom of the boot, down over the top so that you now have the boot right side in and can no longer see the zip tie. Push this down, install knob and without letting the zip tie ride up over the end of the boot, pull it tight just under the knob. You should be in there!

sidenote: I have a brand spanking new boot I want to sell. It matches the OEM boot but is perforated (like the seats) on two opposing panels. Looks good, but not quite what I wanted. I paid 55, will sell for 50 plus shipping. It would look VERY good with the S2K/TSX shift knob as the perforation panels and plain panels match up with the CL's interior scheme.

PM for pics. Someone can host them.

Bought locally. Here's one:

MOMO Anatomico Shift Knob Short
http://store.racinglab.com/moanshshknl.html

Momo Performance Leather Shift Boot
http://store.racinglab.com/momperleatsh.html

I also installed the Neuspeed short shift kit and, combined with the shorter knob, makes driving a real pleasure.

Hope this helps.

I also have the Neuspeed Short Shifter adapter and the silver brush peice that goes around the boot keeps popping out of place when I put it into 5th gear. I cant get it to stop. I dont know how your is set up, but I had to shave down the plastic surrounding that holds the boot down so that it would fit. (the part that is stapled to the boot.)

CL6....do you have this problem? If not what did I do wrong and how do I fix it?

And will that Momo boot work with anyother shiftknob?? Cuz I just got the TSX Shift knob and I spent quit a bit of money on it and I do not want it to go to waste. But that is a good looking boot. If it will fit I will have to invest.

Thanks.

I used double-sided tape to hold the plastic silver bezel to the console. It works very well. The Momo boot... Well it fits so well because it has a thread at its top, which is designed to screw into the bottom of the Momo knob. If you use the Momo knob and a different boot you have to figure out a way to keep it snug. I wasn't too happy having to buy the Momo boot but it does work very well.
