how do you know if your rotors need to be resurfaced?

my car is braking terribly.

i think imma buy some Endless pads and SS Lines...

but what about rotors? not about to buy new ones... but my rotors look like shit... and their cut down enough where the pads touch that theres prolly like a half MM difference in rotor depth between the worn area and the area where there is no pad contact.

suggestions...?

I wouldn't waste your money on the SS lines. There's no difference unless you're really into your brakes then they feel a bit stiffer.

My CL-S' brake pedal vibrated under moderate to heavy breaking. Took it to the dealer, they resurfaced the rotors and changed the brake pads. To test them out, I hit 120 mph last night and breaked heavily - no vibration.

Somewhere I heard that the original brake pads were the problem.

Funny, the service guy asked me to stay away from heavy canyon driving. "How'd he know, I asked myself".

Good luck man!

Most likely your rotors need to be resurfaced. After that the break pedal feels smoother again. Make sure you ask the dealer to change your brake pads as well.

My Service manager informed me that the rotor problems we've been having are indeed attributed to the '01 pads...the metal content in the pads was high and caused the rotors to become hot and warp. My dealer resurfaced my rotors and put on '02 pads with a lower metal content...no problems since then. If you are still under warranty, they will fix them for you, Soop.

I hate that feel of not being able to stop and it sucks
when someone riding in your car goes "WTF is that shaking!!!"

Make the dealer do the work Soop! I had the same issues and they gave no fuss about turn'n the rotors and replacing the pads.

It will feel like a new car again!

BTW- those painted trims in the HL housings look tight!

As per help from another member, I don't remember his name, but he recommended using the EBC GreenStuff Pads, I have used them since, they are great. Less Dust, Better Grip, BUT Don't last as long, but feels much better on braking. Hope this helps.

There ain't no feel to them. They feel exactly like stock unless you really get into the brakes.

NYKEE... i didnt know that was a rule. Good info... as for replacing the rotors... looks fairly simple on our car.

They probably need to be turned if you have enough material left to turn them down. If not, you'll have to get new rotors. A machine shop will mic them and let you know. If they are that bad and you don't turn them, your new pads won't last long and your braking will be less than optimum.

I don't want to sway your decision--I just wanted to let you know that honestly there is no real difference. I was a little bummed out b/c I thought they were going to give a nice firm feel all of the time and they certainly do not.

......Out.......
