I use Meguiars gold class TRIM DETAILER. This stuff is pure magic. It'll restore any faded plastic and lasts a long time. (even used it on an old TV i had sittin around and it made it look new again).
Got it at Pep-boys.
Dang I sound like a spokesman for the stuff.

I don't think the mud guards are faded jimcol711... You just got some wax on them when you waxed the ride. Just keep it out of the sun until you get the wax off... Laundry soap has a low/ acidic pH and will stripe the wax off. Kerosene will take/eat wax right off a car too... try them out. People do this kind of stuff all the time.. Like wax their License plates and stuff.. The sun will fade them out if you wax them. I am sure you just got some wax on them. after you strip the wax off make sure you follow up with some kind of tire or plastic treatment to make them like new again.... and next time be more careful...lol....

If you have any of that oxiclean stuff. wet your finger and put a little of it on the mudguard, then then take a damp towel and rub it in. Hose it off, that should work.

This sounds stupid... but I read somewhere (maybe here) that you can use peanut butter and it would remove any excess wax. A friend of mine tried it and he was amazed at what it took off plastic trim.

One of the benefits of that stuff is it doesn’t “stick” or get white on the rubber if you accidentally get some on there.
I use meguiars “Tire Gel” on my tires and I usually do the splashguards with the same stuff when I’m doing the tires.

There is a product from "Mothers"(the co. that makes the clay bar cleaner) called "Back to Black" which specifically takes care of the problem you are talking about. Used it on my splashguards and took out all that stuck on wax.

Can't believe some of these comments... Kerosene? That sounds scary.
Just try taking a real soft clean toothbrush to the splashgaurds. Also use that to get wax out from edge of emblems & anywhere else. There's one in the Meguiar's Detailing Brushes kit that works wonders.

From Meguiar's page....
How to remove wax from vinyl trim/rubber parts?
The best way to remove wax from vinyl or rubber is to use #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner. #39 breaks down the dry wax residue, revealing your vinyl's natural color. If you can't find #39, any all-purpose cleaner (e.g. Simple Green) also will do the job. Agitating the cleaner by gently scrubbing the surface with a soft bristle brush can help break up the wax. Once you have cleaned the vinyl or rubber, bring back the full depth of its natural color and help protect it with #40 Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner.
