How do you change the alternator and PS pump belts? Helms scan??

Just wondering how to change both those belts. They look pretty complicated!

This might be a little complicated, but it's not too bad. For the A/C, Alt belt, you will need to use a belt tensioner tool (you can get it from NAPA or any auto part store) or a 14mm combo wrench. I use the belt tensioner tool because it's much easier to use. When you get the tool or the wench onto the tensioner pulley nut, you will push toward the back of the car, releasing the tension off the belt. You might have a friend help you hold the tool so you can remove the belt off the pulleys. Caution: The spring in the tensioner is very strong so if the tool slips or comes off the pulley nut and if you have your fingers between the belt and the pulley you are in a world of hurt!
Ok, for the power steering belt, since it goes around the side motor mount, you need to remove the mount and the bracket that holds the motor mount (You might be able to loosen the bracket and remove the mount only and slip the belt around the bracket but I remove them both, more room to work) It might be a good time to inspect that mount since it might be worn/damaged. Once you remove it, you'll need to loosen the power steering pump piviot bolt and the adjustment nut. I'm don't remember if there is another bolt or nut to loosen, but if you are mechnically inclined, you will figure it out. Once you have all the belts off you just reverse the proceedure to reinstall. Tip: Purchase NAPA belts. They are manufactured by Gates belts which are very good quality. Hey since you have all the belts off, might as well buy an UR Ultra S pulley and install that at the same time!!

Haha i just changed the side mount too! Wish i woulda known and i woulda changed the belts at the same time. The belts are prolly fine with only 52k on them though, but i may change them anyways for peace of mind. I go to acura and buy the belts there. I know the parts guy and he gives me good deals. How much is the tensionor tool? Is that an autozone part? Where can i get this UR pulley at?

You should replace those belts. At 52k they are probably glazed and starting to crack. The Acura belts should be fine. I picked the tensioner tool for around 30 bux at NAPA. You can get the UR pulley at Excelerate Performance @ (203) 483-6100. Josh is the sales guy there. If you are going to get the Ultra S pulley, it is an underdriven pulley, so the diameter is smaller than the stock crank pulley. You will need to get smaller belts and those belts can be had from NAPA. Don't think Acura will carry them. The part no. are as follows: Alternator/AC belt - K060441 (44 5/8” or 1135MM) and Power Steering belt - K040425 (43 1/8” or 1095MM) these are Gates part numbers so the guys at NAPA can do a cross reference. If you get the Ultra Sc pulley, it is the same size as the stock pulley so you can get the belts at Acura. The Ultra s will set you back $175 and the Ultra Sc is around $20 more. Check with Josh to be sure. Removing the stock crank pulley bolt is a real pain so if you don't want to attempt it, you can take it to a repair shop and have them install it. You can do more research about the UR pulley in the CL forums or TL forums. The TL forums talk about the UR pulleys in detail so you should check it out.

I bought the tool but i cant get it onto the bolt. It comes with crows feet attachments which are the only one that will fit down the side, but i cant get the tool onto the bolt. Is there something special you have to do?

You can just use a 14mm box wrench and slide a pipe over the end to give you more leverage.

You will have to try and get that 14mm crows foot on the pulley bolt in a position where you can get a good angle so you can push on the tensioner. I had to unhook the wire harness (the harness that runs to the alternator) from the harness bracket to free up room for the tool to move in an arc. Even with the harness loose it was still difficult but possible. If you don't have someone to help you hold the the tool, you can tie a twine from the tool to the frame brace. My tool had a hole at the top of the handle (You have to take the rubber grip off. Mine actually slipped off and I accidently discovered the hole) and I tied a twine to the tool's hole to the frame brace. Try moving that 14mm crows foot in different positions on the tool itself to get close to the angle you want. But unhooking the harness helped in making the job a little easier. Don't rush, take your time and keep a cool head.
