How do i rig a switch to my rad so I can can have it on when the car is off?

I know this is possible.

I want to rig my car so that the rad can be turned on when the car is off so I can cool the car down between drags.

Is this complicated? And how can i do this?

Much appreciated.

Wire the fan directly into the battery with a switch in between the positive wire. You will need a relay on it.

^what he said.

also have you looked into the mugen fan switch? it might compliment what you are trying to achieve...for the first run or so anyways.

Look into all the cooling mods if you haven't done so.

The mugen cooling mods are an awesome way to keep the engine cool. When I had my CL the cooling mods kept the engine very cool. I felt the difference between cold days and hot days.

i doubt you are going to completely get rid of heat soak. i have the p2r package and yes it does keep the heat soak down but it doesnt get rid of it. and yes definately look into the mugen cooling mods. i dont think the radiator cap does much besides raise the boiling point of your coolant. i doubt it will get that hot though. if the mugen thermostat doesnt do it for you then look into the spoon thermostat. the temp for that is even lower, but you need to be aware of your climate. you might throw codes if it is too cold outside. pm type r for more info on that. i still say the fan switch is the cheapest and easiest thing to do along with turning on your rad fan while the engine is off.

check out kingmotorsports for the mugen goodies.

I wouldn't mess with manual fan switches. Really your not in a drag car there's no need to have it running when the car is off. Your not going to cool the car down enough to see much improvement from your mods.
Do the cooling mods as suggested. Those do make a difference. I saw it living in hot south FL.

well with the thermostat opening sooner, doesn't that mess the motor up alot??

And in the canadian WINTER,,, heat is IMPORTANT..

i had that mod on my probe and in the winter it couldn't do heat for shit. will that problem arise?

^ the way a thermostat works is that it remains shut until it reaches a certain temperature. this way the block will be able to warm up. once the tstat reaches its designated temp the valve will open allowing coolant to run through the engine to prevent it from overheating. i dont see how this would ruin your motor. if anything i would imagine it would cause your engine to run rich. kinda like how the 3rd gen tl dumps more fuel when you start up to warm up the engine faster.

i think type r said that there is a certain amount of time that the engine has to reach a certain temp. otherwise it would throw a cooling system inefficiency code or something like that i think.

Its either on the radiator or the t-stat housing. Not sure with this car.

Be careful about doing this. If you run the fan without the engine running, you only cool the coolant in the radiator. If you cool the coolant down too much then run the engine, you'll might warp or crack something pumping cool coolant through a hot engine. I used to do this on my other car but I would run the fans for 5 minutes then turn the engine on for 10-20 seconds to let the temperature drop and stabilize then shut it off. I just kept doing this until the engine was cool.
