How do I change my headlights??

Im a newbie (first post) and am getting the car Monday (01 CL Type-s) but one of the headlights has gone and and needs to get replaced...
My questions:
1. Are all HID's lamps created equal or should i pay more for factory lamps.

2. there are an aweful lot of warning signs about these headlamps- should i leave it to the dealer to fix or can i do it myself. If you think i can do it myself is there any special precautions i should take???

Thanks!
Chris

it is a very costly fix at the dealership, around $400-500 i think is what they quoted me. i had the entire drivers side assembly go out on me. they threw in a free 60k mi service and replaced all my hoses free though.

it depends on how mechanically inclined you are... you have to pull the whole headlight out, which requires pulling off the front bumper... its really quite easy if you are mechanically inclined and know how to turn a wrench

if you're going to buy new bulbs, might as well go with a new set of philips d2r's..maybe 6000k? taking out the headlight is not really that hard...just take off your bumper and headlights, take off the little metal clip, twist and pull..just be careful not to harm the bulb in any way

yeah, don't worry about all the voltage warnings... just make sure the headlight switch is off when you remove them and there shouldnt be any voltage going thru them... i've done it about 5 times already and never had any problems...
