Your friend should have also considered getting a LoJack.

Yes...but the thief can see that you have OnStar and if they are smart they would trash it right away. LoJack doesn't 'announce' itself to the thief - and the cops (at least as advertised) do the tracking themselves. Supposedly some insurance companies give a discount for LoJack installation (mine didn't). LoJack also comes with guarantees and will give you money if your car is not recovered. OnStar doesn't really guarantee their tracking system.

I got both - I guess that I am that belt and suspenders sort of guy.

 

Plus Onstar can be tampered with so that the car can't be found. You can't find out if a car has lojack, nor do you know where lojack hides their transmitter and system.

 

i dunno.....if someone stole my car, i would hope they trash it or dump it somewhere so that I never get it back, or at least I get my insurance before they find it. I wouldn't want it back after someones fucked with it. Sorry to hear your friend has to go through this.
