How come?

I might be on an island here, but it makes sense to me that in order to up shift while accelerating hard, you'd want the shift to be the same direction as the pull and vice versa to downshift.

I did a couple of keyword searches in the forum and as soon as you start talking transmission, you get ALL THOSE threads.

Has anyone successfully reversed the shifting to when you pull back it upshifts and push forward to downshift?

Well, I'm sure it's possible, but not worth it. It makes sense to me that you push up to upshift and down to downshift. What do you mean the same direction of the pull?

I guess he means when you want to accelerate, ur body motion tends to move back and thus upshifting should be backward instead of forward. While when u braking, ur body moving forward, so downshifting should be upward.

Am I correct?

wtf...that makes no sense...and uhh...i think the car shifts perfectly the way it shifts now...but i dunno...that shift sounds too complicated to do on your car and why...dont like to move you hand up instead of down and vice versa?

OHHH wait a minute  you must be talking about the sports shift....i have a 6spd....so disregard my comment....

i see what your saying...but still would be awkward...never thought about it that way tho...

i guess the trip tronic is trying to be just like a 6spd..even though it goes to 5spd...but in the 6spd the lowest gears are on top of the gear box...and the highest at the bottom so maybe thats why they did it that way...

1 top
2 bottom
3 top
4 bottom
5 top
6 bottom....pretty much all the higher gears on the bottom....

now do i make sense...prob not..

If your talking about in SS mode, I didnt like the way it was and i switched the wires around to make the + and - reversed. Its very easy and just 2 wired to repin or cut and switch around

these are just 2 the wires to switch

Cut or repin the orange and yellow wires and flip them around. It will switch the direction in which SS mode shifts.

I preferred to pull back to up shift and push forward to down shift. Especially on track days

Precisely.

How difficult is it to get to? How do you "repin" it? special tools or your standard radio shack stuff?

You just have to remove the center console like you would to remove teh radio (you just need to get to the shifter on teh drivers side where the plug in harness is.

As to repin, its very easy. You just need something like a dentist pick (you can get similar tools at radio shack) and just look for the little tab inside the harness, lift up on it and pull the wire out.

WHOA that is pretty cool, I thought it took a lot more in-depth honkydookery to do that switch. FAQ-worthy, maybe?

I already have 6 speed 0-60 times. I got sick of the 5 speed and threw in a 6 speed

Tranny doesnt matter. The shifters are teh same and the wirind all goes to the ECU to control the shifting. Only way to know for sure if its the same is to look in the manual (which i lent mine out and dont have) or to pull the console apart quick to look. Im betting its the same

When i did this way back when, this was the info i got from someone with the manual. I dont think he had the 00-03 manual so im going ot guess its all the same (until i can get my CL and TL electrical trouble shooting manual to verify)

I'm looking at the Electronic Troubleshooting manual and it shows the
following wiring for the 10 pin plug at the shifter (00-02)

Upshift - Pin #6
white w/ blue stripe (shifter plug side, male) to yellow (PCM plug side,
female)

Downshift - Pin #7
blue w/ yellow stripe (shifter plug side, male) to orange (PCM plug side,
female)

Did it. Aside from having to unlatch part of the plug to repin it, it wasn't that hard at all. AND it makes a whole lot more sense now.

Thanks everyone - especially fsttms1.

It is a simple thing to do and makes total sense once you've done it. The hardest part was reversing the + & - and making it look good.

I can see where this would make sense. If anyone has ever ridden a motorcycle it's kind of the same motion. You're pulling up on the shifter to up shift, and pushing down to down shift. Here he's pulling to up shift, and pushing to down shift.
