How close in performance is a CL to a GTP????

I went to the track yesterday and saw a stock GTP run a best of 14.66 @ 94mph.
I also saw........
2002 Celica GTS = 16.12
S2K = 14.00
Eclipse GST = 15.2
Ram Air TA and SS Z28 = 13.0-13.7

the GTP runs 14.5-14.7 very consistantly in stock form.....some run 14.3 or less even IN STOCK FORM..check out the racing forum for a huge (and somewhat ugly) conversation about the GTP....bottom line is that GTP is a faster car all day long, especially modded....gtps are running 11's when fully modded (and fully modded GTP is less than 10,000 in mods and installation costs)

I raced a GTX for a long time on the highway between 85 and 115 (redilining 3rd) and he was clearly faster. About the GTP let's put it this way. You wont beat him, all things equal. Most probably he will win.

I love the GTP. My dad used to own a Regal GS, the same thing in Buick, that car was smokin.

What happened to that Celica?

top speed of GTP is regulated at 127 i think....with the aftermarket chip, however, that speed limiter is removed

I was real close to buying a GTP but then I drove an Acura. I am a huge Pontiac fan from the musclecar era. I have a 71 TA and 70 Firebird. The Acura's fit and finish is way ahead of the Pontiac. The GTP I test drove already had rattles, but it was quick. That 280 lbs of torque has quite a kick.

Check resale values though. After three years the Acura is rated to be worth 59% of it's original price. The GTP 37%. Do the math and the GTP is a loser.

I've beaten a GTP on the highway, not that long ago I might add from a 55 punch. We were neck and neck til about 70 and I pulled away. Quick car about as fast as the RSX-S I raced on the highway.

This sounds right. The GTP/GS strong point is in the 0 to 70 range. In a high end punch the CLS should have the advantage(both being stock).

The GTX mentioned earlier must have been modded pretty good to have a strong top end. Probably pully, CAI, PCM, and Rockers.

not to hi-jack this topic but my probable brother in law has a 2002 Celica GT with a stick says he can run a 15.5(i didn't see the slip but he swears he did) but I'm thinking he must have a CRAZY Reaction Time.
you guys should have seen his friends Civic Si it was OFF THE HOOK.
It was a 99 or 2000(the actual nice looking ones) blue with 18's supercharger, headers, all kinds of mods to it(it was wild)
before this Celica he had a new style Z-71 with a few mods Extended cab with 5.3 V-8 he said they'd run even with him until he hit 3rd gear then the Si was gone

I recently went to Milan dragway and my times sucked. My best was a 15.2 @ 94mph. The track was slippery with my best 60' time of 2.9 secs. I was the first to run after the big boy running 7's and 8's. Therefore there was a lot of loose rubber on the track. My rockers were coated with rubber after 2 runs. 86 degrees with 98 % humidity didnt help.

My best 60' time was a 2.9.

Best g tech was 14.55 @ 99 mph , but these are usually a little off. I will see a 14.7 or 14.8 next time at the track.

Most often, a car is fast or slow depending on the drivers experience.

Oh, I don't think they'll come over and flame, after all, the GTP guys complain about the interior as well. It is cheap, that's why I bought the Buick version, it is much better, the seats are great(for cruising), but the dash still sucks.

A GP GT is a mid 15 sec car stock, modded they can run with the stock GTPs. Then there is the CSC for it, which takes it to the 13s. I'm surprised that a GT beat you, I guess the wheelspin was the reason.
