All you have to do is take all the covers off. Battry, intake manifold, and the air box. wash them with a soapy sponge. The rest if the engine gust spray it down lightly with water and take your time wipping everything down. I also like to use tire shine on some parts. DON'T USE IT IF... the engine hit hot or warm. After that you'll be set.

Some greased lightning or simple green with water in a spray bottle.
Spray in on the cold engine, let sit 5-7 minutes & then lightly hose down.
Dry with some car towels.

Cover the fuse box, alternator connections, & battery 1st.

Also get some all purpose grease out & grease the TB/cruise linkage, IMRC linkage, & hood latch, after your done.

Armor All is a lot cleaner and easier to apply.

Nothing wrong with tire shine on rubber parts. I don't personally do it but I've seen good results.

Some years back I got a nice car care package from Zep (zep.com). They make commercial cleaning products. This spring I plan on cleaning the car using them. They gave me a gallon of cleaner/degreaser, another gallon of general purpose cleaner, a 32oz bottle of deodorizer, 32oz spray can of non-streaking cleaner, 28oz spray can of carpet cleaner, 32oz spray-can of window cleaner, and 1lb spray-can of tire shine. Think it cost me like $25 for all of it. I've used their products for cleaning and degreasing engines before and it works amazingly well.

I wouldn't recommend using Armor-All on the engine (or at all for that matter). It's silicon based so it actually attracts dust to it. It also builds up (you'll find that the texture of a car dashboard will become totally smooth after a couple years of use as it builds up and fills in the cracks).

Do you happen to have pics of this method freshly done? Sounds like it would have some shine to it.

the easiest/cheapest/laziest way i did it was with some simple green all purpose degreaser (autozone) and something called ENGINE DETAILER made by cd2 (also autozone). i just degreased the engine (cover up electrical stuff) wash it down with hose, let it dry, and sprayed on the cd2 stuff.

was skeptical at first, but i was amazed. it also cleaned the insulator for the hood.

i was satisfied. took like 10 minutes and it only cost me 8 bucks. :P

i dont have any, but it works REALLY well. looks how they do when you buy a new car. super shiny everywhere, and it actually lasts a long time too.
