hot cai intake tubing?

I have a question. after driving home yesterday about a thirty minute drive. i poped my hood and felt the cai and it was hot. is that normal, and doenst it defeat the purpose of having one if the air coming into the intake is being heated by the pipe?

yeah its normal... no way that piping can stay "cool" if its in there sealed up with the engine....

Depends on the color, material and other factors... mine gets a bit warm depending on the temp outside and other conditions (stop-‘n-go traffic, high revs/low speed, high speed/low revs)…

And, if the pipe is really hot, it can kill a HP or two.

If you're talking a bit warm, forget about it... your OK

I'm sure someone could build a double wall intake with a thermal barrier or reflective surfaces with a vacuum (think thermos bottle), but the cost would be HIGH and the gain relative to the current units would be rather small...

BTW, the plenum and other engine surfaces/areas are much hotter!
