Horrible rattle from somewhere in the back

Hey all -

Driving into Chicago this morning, I began to hear something from the back. Turning down the radio, and tuning my ears to the back, it's some NASTY rattle but I'm not able to locate it exactly. Could it quite possibly be the rear window rattle everyone is plaqued with? What is the best way to investigate this? Is there an easy fix?

Thanks!

Tell me about it.. When the temperature drops below 35 degrees my car sounds like it's about to fall apart!

Dont worry about, this is a special feature included in the CLS.

Did not you read it on the sticker when you bought

Maybe it's just me, but whenever I have friends in my car I get upset and embarrassed at how many squeaks and rattles there are.. Fortunately, they only seem to be heard when the temp drops below 35 degrees. Hmmm, I must have missed the note stuffed under the floor mats about the "special" squeaks and rattles that are standard on the CL!!

rattle

I have a rattle coming from the back of the car in the area of the rear window and rear speakers. It rattles a lot when i drive slow and especially when i have talk radio on and also during songs with base. I also have a clicking from under my car when im above 80. I live in miami so its never cold. I can only imagine what it would be like if i lived up north.

Mine had rattles from the following...

The rear defroster connector cover on the rear glass was loose.
The BOSE badge on speaker grill was loose and would rattle with bass.

I've been on this board for some time now and it seems like most of us if not all have rattles and squeaks to deal with. I understand that all cars have imperfections and noises but I'm very surprised that the CL has so many.. I used to own a 97 CL 3.0 before my CLS and it rarely made any noise in the cabin... I hope this isn't an omen of things to come for Acura..

There is a peice of "U" shaped metal the holds a plastic peice that holds the trunk support bars. Mine broke free and rattled really bad. I put some double sided sticky tape on it and shot some screws in it and problem is gone. Ya'll might wanna check it out.

answers.....

Settle down people. I had a NASTY rattle in the back of my car as well. Take a look at where your rear window meets the third brake lamp in rear starage unit (by the speakers).
If there's a space between the two, then they are probably bangin' together, 'causing an annoying rattle & creek.

Take the soft side of a piece of velcro (cut it to approprite size....smaller than a dime) and place it between the space in the window and brake light. Remember...you'll be able to see the velcro from the outside, but if you center it appropriatly, you'll just think it's part of the car. Believe me IT WORKS and doesn't look bad at all. Good luck.

(use a pair of needle nose plyers....might help unless you have midget hands)

I used this technique when my visor extension was rattling as well.

Ok... It sounds like two pieces of styrofoam (sp?) rubbing together. It's somewhere in the back, perhaps from the shelf. It's hard to say... I think I'm going to take it in.

It actually almost sounds like the window seal is loose. I dunno...

It's certainly audible when the stereo is turned up. It just doesn't sound like the thrid breaklight seal meeting the window...

Sucks ass!!!

FIRST CHECK FOR RATTLES

First thing to check is the muffler hangers.

If they are not perfectly placed, the mufflers will rattle when going over bumps, especially at slow speeds...

Mine did this and it took me forever and a trip to the dealer to figure it out...

Now that I have the comptechs, however, no more rattles....

Scrib,
Let us know what you find. The styrofoam rattle is *exactly* what I have. It comes from the right-rear part of the car.

You know what....after hearing all this talk, I've been noticing funny noises myself, NOT the velcro fix I mentioned before. I thought it was just a bunch of CD's rolling around in my truck but on second thought it couldn't be that. I'll check it out tonite.

I've got an appointment for next Friday. I may get in the backseat, while my wife drives around and see if I can get a better idea of what is going on.

Let me know what you find out. This is audible even with the radio/CD player on and even when turned to a considerable volume. It almost scares me it's so loud!!!

Motor Trend one year update

I hate the rattles, I seem to fix one and then find two more. I had acura look at the noise from the rear and the rattle from my moonroof, when I bought it in for the 15k servicing. They said they used squeak reduction tape to fix the rattle for both problems. When I drove out it was fine for about a week and then I noticed the back rattle agian, I am pretty sure its coming from the brake light touching the window. Then there are other rattles from like the rear passenger window area, and the passenger seat itself. If any of you guys have found and fixed these rattles, please share with the rest of us.

I just got my motor trend mag today and they have the one year update on the 01 CL-S and their only problem with it was the squeaks and rattles.
