Hood insulation removal?

Hood insulation removal?
Would it be a bad idea to remove the hood insulation just to have a cleaner look? Mine got ripped from various things and looks like shit. I was thinking it may be bad for the paint or may make my car sound slightly louder? Ooh, may be a good thing?
