Honda ATF still the choice?
I'm gonna do my first DIY tranny flush, and wanna know if Honda ATF is still the way to go.
Amsoil / Redline / Mobil 1 still aren't recommended as better options?
Thanks in advance

I would go with Redline synthetic ATF its what I'm running as well as many others. It is reccomended by comptech for their supercharger.
It is quite expensive though at around $6-7 a quart. If you went this route I would reccomend getting a tranny flush at the same time to get all the old non-synthetic tranny fluid out.

If I went with one of the synthetics -- Amsoil or Redline, would it be OK to flush it a few times with cheaper ATF? I'd hate to spend $7 / quart, and drain 6 quarts just flushing.

changing the ATF will help the tranny 10X!.
I paid $9.99 for 3 Qrts of Z1 ATF I did the drain and refill myself ( at 51k miles and last time at 45kmiles , it took me just 10 mins.. The tranny felt solid and the shifts are super smooth.

I change my tranny fluid with Honda Z1, buy it at a Honda dealer (cheaper), keep all reciepts.
The dealer did not ask about required maintainance when the tranny was replaced at 55k.
I'll stick with Honda's fluid, never know how generous Acura will be with transmissions in 3-4 years. Plus if the transmissions are inheritly defective, synthetic fluid won’t fix it.
I just turned 56k and plan on doing a change. I'm sure there is some break-in junk in the new tranny after 1k.
Don’t forget, get a new crush washer for the transmission drain plug. Make sure they don’t give you an oil drain washer, it is too small. The tranny washer has an inner diameter about the size of a nickel. You’ll need a long extension to reach the tranny fill plug and a long funnel, or one with a hose.

OK, so a couple final questions:
1) does exactly 3 qts fill back up to the top notch on the dipstick? i didn't see in the manual where it defined the amount.
2) would it drain properly if the front was jacked up a little to get under there?
thx

Blown is Best
Amzoil ATF is the choice in my book for Honda/Acura. Stick with a Z-1 rated fluid. Honda and Amzoil are the only ones that I know of that claim that specification. Of the two, Synthetic Amzoil is superior to the Honda fluid in my book. Flush does make a difference.

The helms manual says 2.9 qts.
When I use ramps, 3 quarts is always a bit much.
From now on, when I drain the fluid in the new transmission, I'm sending a sample to Blackstone. If the new tranny is going to fail prematurely, I want to know. I'm not going to be outside the 7/100 warrany. I'll take the deprecation buying a new vehicle over the cost of buying a new defective tranny.
