Homelink Question

Hey guys, I was reading up on the Homelink features of the CL and ended up on the Homelink homepage, only to see what appeared to be X-10 equipment, which you might recognize if you're familiar with home automation. Does anyone have details on what equipment is needed to use the homelink buttons in the CL to connect to standard x-10 modules? It looks like it only requires a standard X-10 wireless module, which would be incredibly cool, because I already have 2 or 3 of them...

For the people who have no idea what I'm talking about, go take a look at X 10's web page. Its some really cool home automation stuff - turn on lights, appliances, adjust your thermostat, etc.

SEARS sells the modules and I’m not sure if their compatible with X-10 stuff.

HomeLink works great w/ X10. I use it to turn lights on when i come home and off when i leave. (since i don't have a garage at my apartment!)

Radio Shack sells X10 compatible products, but you'll get the best prices from x10.com. actually, x10 manufactures all the products for companies like IBM HomeDirector and RCA and Magnovox, they just label them differently.

I suggest you order x10's Active Home kit to start, and add on from there. If you sign up for their email newsletter, you often get $20 coupons emailed to you (and free shipping over $25).

The drawback is some of the x10 stuff is fairly cheap, but they usually replace bad modules for free.

If you want to get more sophiscated than X10, go to smarthome.com. They sell pricier but more advanced X10 compatible products made by other companies (now that x10's patent is expired).

All the homelink does is act as a wireless transmitter that sends a signal to a receiver module.

Sorry so long! hope this helps!
