Hit and Run

Last night, someone hit my front bumper and took off. The front drivers side corner, right under the left headlight is dented and the bumper actually ripped. So I am thinking they will have to change the front bumper. Trying to decide whether I should report it to my insurance company since I have a 500 dollar deductible. I was wondering if any of you had an idea of how much a new front bumper for the 2001 CLS costs. I would go to a body shop and get a quick estimate but its the weekend. Any help would be great, thanks

Ouch:'( . Sorry to hear about the hit & run. Jerks are everywhere

As for claiming it under insurance there is no doubt the bumper replacement, mounting and painting (if it comes in primer) will run a lot more than $500. Another consideration, would be how long you have been insured by this company and any previous claims. If you give them a reason to cancel insurance they will. In the end you have to make the decision but if it was me I would claim it.

Good Luck!

Yeah not much you can do about the morons out there. The sad thing is that I think it may have done some damage to my AEM intake. When I am in drive and at a light, I hear a weird noise and it looks like the intake air suction is right around where the dent is. I am gonna take the car in for an estimate on friday morning. Anyone have an idea on much a new front bumper costs?

That suck man,
But the best auto body shop in Syosset is Syosset auto body on Underhill, I have had a few cars there and the work that they do is perfect, on car that had to be put on the rack, when I went to sell it to a dealer I told them about it and they informed me that if I hadn't told them they wouldn't of been able to tell.

I hope you filed a police report .. insurance companies like it when there is a police report .. and some won't count it against you .. there is also a min claim limit (I hadta have my integra door repainted because I backed into it with another vehicle .. after my deduct . it cost the ins company only $400 .. so it hasn't counted as a chargable claim).

I have been to the body shop in syosset before and he is great. Just going through the Rallye body shop for this one so that they settle it with the insurance company directly. I got a police report and appartently because it is a hit and run my deductible is only $250. The cost of a new bumper is like 1100 installed and painted @ Rallye. I will take it in on Friday to get a more accurate estimate.

It must take alot of nerve (or no class or insurance) to hit someone and then drive off. People just don't respect others nice things.

nofear, your front bumper was 1100, that is way way too much. A bumper, painted, and installed should run you no more than 600. I hit someone lightly a long time ago and so my bumper is all shitty and i called up a place that does work for Pasadena Acura and they told me it was approximately 550 or so for bumper, painted, and install

same thing happened to me about 2 years ago when the car was under a year old. i was quoted $1600(needed a front fender too)

i went to three or four different places, and all were about $1600, except on was $600, and he told me i could have it the next day. that kind of made me think what are they really going to do, not get the correct(OEM) parts and such.

I figured that i had a new car, paid good money for it, i didn't want a shit job done or to even take that chance.

the week i was going to get it fixed for $1600 i got caught in a hail storm that fucked the cl up. insurance paid for the hail and the shop fixed everything else and some door dings with the money. i didnt pay a dime, not even for the rental

idiot drivers suck

good luck man

Having a bumper changed should only run you about $600 to $700. $1100 is nuts. I had both my bumpers replaced, painted and mounted on my Maxima a couple years ago and it cost $1000.

Shop around. You should find a good reliable place to do it.

Your better off claiming it because it will cost alot, it also depends where in New York you live because in westchester they will rape you. If you do claim it you should get the Ron Jon front bumper, the insurance wouldnt know! Good luck

heat the bumper up with a hair dryer all around and including the dent, then with your hands(maybe wear a glove cause it gets hot) push around the edges, it should pop out. did it to my sisters last week. it wont look great, but its already f'ed and it will look better than it is now

and it may take about 20 min or more to do

Just go through insurance. Hit and run deductables are half of your normal dedutable normally. So for $250 you're good to go.

Hit and run

I had a guy hit my rear bumper and put a 4" crack in it. (while my car was parked, of course my wife was driving at the time). He drove off and I got his tag #, went through all the police/insurance crap and turns out he has no insurance. The guy had an old address on his registration, and no one can find him. To make a long story not so long, my insurance company wants the whole $500 deductable out of my pocket, "There is nothing they can do to get it from him"

Bunch a crap if you ask me. And most places want about $700-800 to fix it.

Any good aftermarket rear bumper covers you can recomend if I do get this thing fixed?
