Hit the rev limiter last night.

I was stuck behind this guy on the freeway last night for about a mile cause he was doing 55 in a 65. As soon as I had an opening I used the exit lane to drop it in 2nd and go. I was looking in my rear view at WOT and as I was changing lanes to get in front of him I wasn't looking and hit the rev limiter. The car just died, until I shifted into third. My question is did that do any damage, or is it one of those things that if not that often it's not a big deal?

Please have a crane drop on my car so I have to buy a new CL-S. But wait till I'm not in the car. Thanks

If it weren't for the rev limiter you could have don't a lot of potential damage. I think that you're fine though. I seriously doubt any damage was done. I watch kids in hondas bouncing their car off the rev limiter doing burnouts all the time.

I used to live in Scottsdale and still have a lot of friends that live in Tempe. Where in Tempe do you live?

I remember hitting the revlimiter once when i left my car in SS and was racing an integra. and at 67mph the rev limiter kicked in and it followed by serveral jerkings of the car. not a cool feeling. next time I went to the dealer I asked about this and they said that it didn't really do any damage. so don't worry.

I've had this happen about 3 times, until I got used to the SS. I'm sure glad this car has a rev-limiter! I seriously doubt that any damage was done.

I've hit it about 3 times as well...always while in 2nd. I haven't noticed any problems because of it.

I notice it takes a second for it two switch in to 3rd...so whatt's the best time to hit the SS in to 3rd? While the tach is at 5500-6000?

I live on Southern and Rural in tempe. Close to ASU. I got the house while attending school, now I work in Scottsdale on Hayden and 83rd. A couple miles north of Shea. Next to Costco. I'm hoping to buy a house in Scottsdale or N Phx this summer.

Two things.
1. Why would you shift at 5500-600rpm? I wait until it hits 6900-7000 and then shift. I've never hit the rev limiter this way.

2. Why do you think hitting the rev limiter is going to hurt your car? The manufacturer puts the rev limiter there so you don't hurt your car by going past its redline. Obviously it's probably better to never rev your engine and drive at moderate rpms levels all ofthe time, but hitting your rev limiter once and awhile isn't going to do any damage at all.

before i got my cls, i went to a local dealer for a test drive. we took out a cls w/ comptech package (header, springs). the sales person actually wanted me to hit the rev limiter... i guess that shouldnt cause any harm...
