Highway S4 encounter

Not exactly a true race, but I just had to share this story. (a little long.. my apologies)

Driving on the highway with my girl and this blue S4 with 4 fairly large individuals were driving like complete idiots. Cutting in and out between cars, cutting people off on purpose, etc - Driving really unsafely to say the least. I tried to avoid these guys and pulled over to the middle lane. I guess they didn't like me changing lanes, so they get about 2 inches from my back bumper. I slowed down a little and they give me the finger. This now pissed me off. I plopped it into SS. The road cleared up ahead so they change lanes to try to pass me. Luckily the speed I was going at, I was able to downshift to 5200 rpm.
My headers allowed me to pull nicely and I pulled about a half car on these guys to about 100 or so. We hit traffic ahead and they had to get behind me again. A minute later they again tried to pass, and again I pulled ahead. This time it was about even but they could not make up any ground. They once again had to pull behind me. They tried again, and I let them do a ricer fly-by due to traffic. I felt I represented the CL well enough. No need for a ticket.

Now I know a S4 is faster than our CLS. No doubt about it. I drove my old college roomates' many times and it definitely is faster (especially off the line), but having probably 850+ lbs of weight (4 LARGE passengers) and trying to take me on the highway (headers help me nicely) gave them a HUGE disadvantage.

Although it wasn't truly a kill, it was fun to be able to hold off an S4

And finally for any doubters. This story is indeed true. I wouldn't waste your or my time writing this if it wasn't

BULLSH!T!!! NEVER HAPPENED!! J/K . If he had 3 passengers for total of four people to your two people (you included) then he has a huge weight disadvantage. Plus, your car should fare pretty well with your headers anyway. It is just a shame the guy was driving like an a$$. You could have made it a nice, clean, fun run if he was driving under more control.

I really love the S4. It actually came down to the S4 and the CLS when I was looking at a new car. I just couldn't justify spending almost 9k more for the S4. I am actually looking to get a new S4 when it comes out.

The S4 is definitely a faster car than our CLS in almost every respect, but he had a LOT of extra weight and on the highway, the CLS is at it's sweetest (especially with headers)

This was the first S4 I have ever seen that was being driven like that. These guys looked 19 at most, so I guess they probably took Daddy's car out for a joyride.

From a roll, a Cl-S and a stock S4 will be a very close race. With your mods, I would think the advantage goes to you, especially against a tip (auto). However, things change when you race from a stop. A manual S4 will just leave you at the launch. It is VERY easy to launch with quattro. Even an auto S4 will launch reasonably well because there is no traction problem (although it is 1 sec slower than a manual). I have driven my buddy's Cl-S many times and I just could not keep the tires from spinning. Once rolling, Cl-S is an awesome car to drive. If you choose your battles well I see no reason why you wouldn't win most of the time. Just watch out for those that are chipped. I think you would have a hard time pulling on my stage II 6-speed.

Actually that is illegal and you could be paying a hefty fine and possibly jail time.

If proven, you could say a deer ran out in front of you and you mildly applied brakes but the other driver was just too close to your back end.........believe me 9 times out of 10 the person that gets hit from behind is not at fault.

I like my car too much to have them hit me , although I hate to admit the thought did cross my mind!

My friend's S4 is a monster from a launch. No way could a CLS ever hope to keep up off the line. Not even with my mods. From a roll, it's a little different story. Having so much weight gave me a slight advantage. (again, I barely pulled the first time and stayed even the second) Not that this was a kill, more like being able to stay even with an S4

TypeSKid: Your car probably would do as well or better than mine. I have even less sticky tires than you do. Yes.. I still am running stock tires. I am just waiting for them to wear down before I get a pair of Toyo's.

I rarely try to take someone from a stop because all I seem to do is spin my tires. From a roll is a different story though.

BTW.. I said it before and I'll say it again. I LOVE the S4
