High amp alternator?
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/240A-HIGH-OUT...#ht_1664wt_699
just came across this..
my issue is i have the underdrive pulley on my car and at idle with lights and shit going, my power dies down to 12v because of the less rpms at idle due to the underdrive pulley..
MY QUESTION:
will this high amp alternator solve this issue for me? because my battery gets weak everytime i put a new one in .
i'd just like the charging system to NOT be gaining and losing power... and i do not wanna remove the underdrive pulley so,.
will this fix it fellas??
maybe i can get a system in my car then
thanks

you have other problems if an underdrive is causing those issues. never had a problem with underdrive and my system. with that said i put in a 130A alt from an odyssey (car-part for like $60)

If you purchase the under drive pulley KIT it would have came with a smaller diameter pulley as well to maintain the "turn-to-turn equilibrium" required between the crank and alternator pulley. If it didn't come with this pulley or if you just bought the under drive crank pulley by itself, you can contact any local alternator rebuild shop or supplier (also look for electric motor rebuilders) and they should carry a smaller diameter pulley that will solve your problem. If left as it is for too long, the regulator inside WILL burn up due to trying to create more amperage at a slower rate. Trust me, I see this a lot here in my shop. Also, while the subject is here, higher amperage alternators change something called a "charging threshold" or simply the RPM at which the alternator begins to charge. So if youre factory 120A alternator begins charging at 625rpms, one that's 150A may start charging at 900rpms. So, if you're engine idles at 750rpms and the high output alternators charging threshold doesn't begin until 900rpms...your battery begins to discharge until that engine speed is reached. Anytime we encounter charging related issued that involve excessive amperage draw at idle, we will always attempt to correct the problem by installing a decreased diameter pulley. A good rule of thumb is don't go higher than 70% of the amperage of the alternators total rated amperage at idle

my alt is being underdriven cause of the option ud pulley....
simple as that... when it gets in the 30s outside the voltage drops a lil to 13.8s and but if the car is warm and u have everything running full at a light then it drops slowly to 12v! so i would like to address this finally
