HID doubt

Sometimes when driving at night, I can see the Xenon HID headlamps from some Audis and BMW that are out of alingment, where one headlight points maybe higher than the other one.

Have you noticed this? WHy does this happen?

most bmw's these days have autoleveling lights I believe

but yes, it's normal for any headlights HID or not to have one higher then the other.

It's normal for the 2 front lights to...not be parallel. But as far as I know, the difference is not relevant to height. The height should be the same.

The difference has to do with the horizontal direction (not vertical). The left light is "shooting" more "inner" (that is, to the right), as compared to the right light. The reason for that of course is because when in a one (and one) lane road, you dont "blind" the upcoming fellow driver.

I realigned mine after my springs were installed, seemed like they were no throwing as long of a beam...They are both equal now, or at least they look it.

also bmw's and audis with hids have projectors, and the projectors give different light colors and patterns a different angles even if the lights are aligned.

not sure, but lots of those hids on bmw, audi, and MB cars have a similar light distribution to that of e-code requirements in Europe or are DOT/E-code lamps. Like sellout was saying, the beam of a bmw w/ projector hids is like below,

illuminating more of the right side, and producing a flat beam straight ahead and to the left.

I don't know, haven't noticed any lamps in particular being more blinding than others, wish they made e-code lamps for our cars-
