hid bulb question
I have been looking around to replace my stock bulbs as they are getting older I found a pretty nice deal on a set of d2s bulbs made by Philips you think its okay to use d2s instead of d2r? My friend said he read on hidplanet awhile back that people were using d2s bulbs instead of d2rs and it was okay with thei reflector setups. He said people stated that the metal strip on the bulb was not all that effective and you could use without it. Anyone have any experience with this?

You can use D2S bulbs, but you will need to make a cutout in the base just like the D2R's have. I believe they have bulbs with both cut outs and they call them D2C. ebay D2C and you will see what i'm talking about...
ah hell, here is a pic:
See how it has 3 cutouts in the one portion of the base?
Here is a more descriptive pic (taken from an ebay auction [user: akinaboy])...
So if you want to use a D2S bulb, you have to make the cut out to fit our D2R housing. Thus making the bulbs D2C. I have a set of D2S's that i modified and there are just some more random lines that were not there with the original D2R's

just to give a definitive answer based on akinaboys ebay site he said you use a d2s bulb in a d2r housing as long as the base has been modded. He even states that you will gain more light output without blinding traffic.
