Hi all! I bought an '01 CL-S this weekend!

Hey there everyone.

I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I'm Michael from the DC Area and this weekend I bought a silver '01 CL-S w/ Navi. A couple of questions already (and I haven't taken delivery of it yet)....

First, a bit about the ride...

Got it from a Toyota dealership in Alexandria, VA that had take it in on trade. PO is a FBI Agent.
It has 101K miles. I paid $11,550. Trans was replaced under recall at 55,000 and the trans oil jet thing was installed last month. It's got new Goodyears (prefer Toyos personally, but it is what it is) and is in virtually perfect condition on the inside. The only issues I can complain about are the following:

Wheel rash (is that DYI paintable?). I know I can get 'em redone, but I'm not super concerned about it...

The driver's door, rear quarter and rear bumper have all been repainted (pretty well, I might add). However, the PO tells me that he never had any accidents and no paint work (carfax is clean) and the selling dealership tells me that they didn't have any paint work done to it either. This was a bit of a concern because it seems like someones not fessing up... I had the car MD inspected before I bought it and they went through it pretty thoroughly and they are convinced that it was never in an accident as the original seams/welds/etc. are all in place. The stickers in the door jamb are all there and there is no waves at all any of the frame rails. I wonder if it got scraped at the dealer the PO bought the car from before he bought it? I suppose I am worried about something that doesn't matter at all. The repaint looks good and there's no signs of body damage, so it shouldn't really matter.

The next thing is that hood and front bumper are about 2 mm's off. That is clearly a parking lot "bonk". The effect is that the hood gaps aren't even. I wonder how hard it would be to straighten that back out... Any thoughts?

I've been browsing the forum all weekend looking for any must dos. I'm not going to mod it (at least not too much), as I have a sports car already and this is going to be my DD. I should get a 90K or 100K service done and I am thinking that I'd like to swap the bulbs in the "driving lights." I'm a little leery of doing so though just because they must be much hotter than the little 5watt bulbs that are there and I don't want anything to melt...

By the way, in many cars w/ Xenon's I've noticed that they self level when the car is started. How come are cars don't do that?

Thanks!

-Michael

welcome.

not sure about any of the body work stuff... but as for the road lamps it won't hurt to swap them out to piaas or polarg. it doesn't get too hot.

Yeah, that and the fact that our cars' aren't designed for it. Like he said, generally you see it with projector beams. It is a cool feature though, I love it on my BMW

Actually, the only thing you really should do to the CL is intake and a header You'll be pleasantly surprised.

That and lower the thing. It's a 4x4 stock.

Are the CAI's that you can get on eBay any good? I am surprised at how inexpensive they are. I probably won't do the header for a little while. I just got the sports car this summer, so my car budget is pretty well tapped.

What's a good place to get the light bulbs for the "driving lights"?

Welcome. Hope you have as much fun with it as I'm having with mine. By the way pretty much all of the Acura dealers in the Baltimore/DC area are pretty good if you ever need any work from them. I've heard the most praise for Tischer

I have one of those ebay intakes on both my BMW and the CL...it's one of those polished ones- and it works just fine. An intake is an intake is an intake. It's a pipe with a filter on the end. The only thing you might have to buy is perhaps a better filter because some of them are really cheap and small. It still saves you money over the long haul vs. an AEM and such. Oh and spring for an AEM bypass valve if you live in a damp climate!

Sweet NSX!

At 100k you will be due for a timing belt/water pump/accessory belt change. I would also do the cooling system since you never know if the coolant (antifreeze to you East Coasters) and especially the hoses were ever changed. Also, get the brakes checked and have the brake fluid flushed (again you dont know when that was done if ever). Finally, get the trans fluid changed for the same reason. I'll assume the dealer at least changed the oil.

Enjoy your ride. I've had mine for 4 1/2 years and 76k troublefree miles. I've only recently changed the original tires and battery and everything else is original. I'm impressed with how tight and still new feeling mine is.

Welcome,

I'm just curious to know what made you buy a CLS that had over 100K, with the warranty the transmission expired.

F900, the trans was replaced under warranty at 55K. The 2nd gear oil thing was installed last month. FWIW, I really like the car, but I paid $11,550 for it, so I it's probably worth it. Interior is flawless. Right now it drives beautifully. But for the odo., you'd be heard pressed to tell it had 100K miles on it. Even an Acura Master Tech said "this car is perfect". I am hopeful that it'll be ok.

Sandman_61, the NSX is a '92 and it's bone stock (except for the painted calipers and '94 polished rims). It's plenty fast for the time being.

Any suggestions for places to get the PIAA driving light bulbs?

ref the repaint - I had a prob with my clearcoat, and acura repainted 1/2 of the psger side just to cover a dime-sized spot where the clear had flaked off. It could be something along those lines and not an accident.

Welcome...don't worry bout the hood and bumper not aligning. Seems to be a common problem with our rides. I would add an AEM cold air intake, it adds 2-4 miles per gallon and the power increase is noticeable, and you get that infamous hiss (love it), especially when the V-TEC kicks in. PolarG lamps will come the closest to matching your HID's. They look fabulous and only cost about $15. Good luck...sure you will enjoy. You might as well consider it an NSX Lite...in my opinion, the best sports coupe entertwined with the luxury you come to expect from Acura. Gotta love the CL-S

I didn't even look at the date, I just read the whole thing and still didn't notice until RaviN said something...

I was thinking to myself that this guy must be a moron to buy a 6 year old CL with over 100k for $11,500...
