Hesitating Badly After Startup

For the first minute or so after I start my car, when I put the car in drive and depress the accelerator, it hesitates BADLY, and almost dies.

Then the power will come on strong, and then almost die again.

If I nurse it down the road, it will start behaving normally after about a minute or two.

It doesn't seem to matter if the engine is hot or cold, it does the same thing every time I turn it on. It doesn't matter if it's been sitting overnight or if I just ran into the store.

Anyone have any ideas on what might be going wrong?

I agree. Ever had a tune-up yet? How many miles are on the car? Gotta stay on top of servicing or these kind of things will happen. IF this is even the case. I'm not judging you YET....

Weird, if the engine is running so poorly I would think the OBDII system would pick up on something. No codes?

I gotta change my spark plugs too. I believe the torque spec is 13 pound feet. Should I bother buying a torque wrench for this, or just tighten to finger tight, and then 2/3 turn with wrench?

I know I have to buy a torque wrench eventually, but people say not to cheap out on that part; I've been hesitating since I don't know which to get.

You should be safe doing this.

Get a good tq wrench. I used to have a cheap one and that almost didn't end well.

heres another thing to look at ... when my CAT went it would cruise normal start and idle normal but apon WOT it would wanna die and not climb above 5k and did so so slowly ... see what had happened was the insert was breaking up and peices of debris on WOT were trying to be blown out but instead would just clog the cat long and short is one easyish way to check this is unblot just before CAT and wedge 2 sections apart ... if car runs perfect after that well then you know !

^Im also having similar issues. i think it's one of the coils thats bad. I already checked the 4,5,6 coil but they seemed fine, now i gotta try 1,2,3.

Mine fixed itself. It had been raining pretty heavily before it happened, so I parked my car in the sun with the hood open for a day.

After that, it stopped and started behaving normally.

I even took it to a mechanic before doing that and they couldn't find anything wrong.

It's been fine ever since. I think water must have gotten into something under the hood.

^ that weird.
Well I fixed mine today, it turned out to be a bad coil. That sucky part was that I didn't find the bad one until the end. It turned out to be the #3 coil.

i can almost promise you it was the water. while i was overseas my parents had my car and my dad sprayed the bay while washing my car the morning i got back and my car did the exact same thing you described. let the car sit running with the hood open to dry the water and it has been fine since.

My car would do the same thing after a automated car wash. Problem was the car wash would shoot water in where the CAI was. After the second wash I figured it out. So it was a easy fix. Just stopped using the automated washes.

Were you not getting a misfire code at all? One would think you would have.

Yeah I did, but it was saying that all of them were a misfire, so I had to check them one by one until I found the bad one.

My cl-s6 had the same when I had it back in 03. Acura replaced all of my coils.
