Exclamation HELP! What should I look for in buying CL-S6

I will be checking out a private party CL-S 6mt soon! It has 28k miles and is selling for $15,000 (clean title). Finally my search has gotten me something! I got a free carfax report from cars.com and it says

SO it seems good to go to me. I dunno stick yet (18 year old h.s. student... =[) but i'll learn. But anyways, my cousin or father will be coming with me to help me test drive it.

Is there anything that I should look for? Any suggestions for proceeding with buying it?

Thanks!

i dont know if i can be much help but mileage seems low and a good price... you can always work on the price so try to go a little cheaper but nothing really i can think of to look out for in particular... its a 6 speed so the tranny is good.

carfax is helpful but do not rely on it totally for all info. there are lots of cases where info does not get reported or show up on carfax. Have car inspected if you want more info on the car. I always wonder about low mileage cars, why weren;t they driven much, wrecked? repairs, etc. who drives a car only 4-5,000 miles a year?
Just warnings, the car could be a great buy.

Not sure why the carfax is "free" but it has only one record i guess.

Bringing it to a mechanic to get it checked, does that cost money? and how much?

I have the unlimated Carfax right now while I was shopping for cars. The price seem pretty low for the price but otherwise sounds like a great deal. I'm just about to close on a '03 CL-S6 with navi in the next few days. Very fun car. May be a little more then someone in high school can handle. Insurance payments on it should be fun for ya.

I had mine checked out at an Acura dealer, seems like it was $85. Most shops do pre-sale inspections. If not an Acura dealer, find a shop that specializes in Acuras.
you might try to get the seller to pay for it or split the cost, cause if you don't buy it the seller could have the report to show other buyers too.

wow slap in my face. well call me what you want, i'm 18, own my own business, interning. i say i'm more successful than most 18 year olds and maybe even more successful than you. its okay, i'll hire you if i need u plus insurance shouldn't be too bad, this is a "luxury" car. I can always shop around.

thanks everyone for the help, i'll be checking out the car tomorrow and i hope that I can finally get this car.

What you should look for in buying a 6spd is Navi. Thats it. Great car.

If you're going to install an in-dash a/m unit, I suggest saving the money from that and take your time to find a navi car to begin with. They are pricey. If you're really set on having a screen in the dash, can you imagine what it would look like with two screens in the dash? If you want to know, search for pics of NiteQwill's interior. He has 2.

Assuming I get another CL, it'll be a 6speed, but will also have navi. No other way around it. haha

A 6spd CL is pretty much bullet proof, so there's not much to worry about... That "Free" carfax looks a little light...

A four year old car in CA should have at least emissions testing on the carfax report, so just having one entry (at 25 miles, probably when it was new) is kinda weird... I've got close to a dozen entries (mainentance, recalls, and year inpections) on my CL.

Low mileage, a decent price and navi is all you have to worry about 2 out of 3 ain't bad...

But I am curious why the seller is selling a car that they barely drove...

And the price raises a red flag, since I think it's a $17K car (good condition, private sale) with that kinda mileage (Kbb.com agrees)

When I got my 6spd, I was kinda upset at first that I didn't get navi, but with the navi in the 2nd Gen CL being so old now, it's less of an issue when buying a used CL...

I'm not crazy about the look with 2 screens in the dash, but what do I know, I'm a stock kinda guy...

yeah, price is odd, its around $19,700 on KBB. it is dropped, and has a lot of audio upgrades (new hu, speakers all around, custom sub setup). i think "fixed up" cars are harder to sell.

the carfax report doesn't seem complete, got it off the carfax page itself.

navi, i'm not too worried. i got my good ol computer, printer, and google =]

im not sure why the seller is selling it, but some people sell for no reasons. its been listed for 2 months (or he claims) and no one ever bought it yet... ionno

he barely drove it because he lives close to work. lives in downtown, works in downtown.

but im planning to get it inspected, check the vin, test drive, and get as much paperwork as possible. hopefully it goes well.

Not surprised. It takes the right buyer to come along for the CL.

Wow, I wasn't trying to offend you. Settle down lil guy. What I meant by the comment was that it's may be a bit more powerful then most high school students seem to be able to handle. Sure it's a luxury car but it's also an Acura and weighs a decent amount. Thanks for the job offer but I'm beyond happy with my job.

chill a bit man, on these boards you just got to let things ride, people will rag on you but take it light heartedly. i've seen a few of your posts before about your business and interning, some people on here don't like people that flaunt what they have but i do have respect of what you have done with yourself. i'm a year older then you and i have become very successfull, but i don't flaunt it nor do i want to. just be you and don't start a e-battle's

the car part....the car seems like good buy, test drive it, check it out and maybe have a mechanic look at it. most insurance policies for people our age is going to be high no matter what, the fact of it being a luxury car will help. i'm looking for 6spd myself because i've always loved these cars, call me crazy but lately when i have been looking for cars as a new summer toy, i sometimes will take a clean CLS6 over a M3......i like the interior better on the Acura and what it has to offer eventhough the M3 is probably what i'll end up with.

Daddy must have a fat pocket! What type of business do you own? Im really interested, and your an intern at the same time... CEO's do not usually own a business by the way, CEO is a title usually reserved for larger corporations... You are what people call an owner / operator.

You only have a CEO when you have a board of directors... if the company is still private (or family owned) the top dog is the Owner/President... that title changes to CEO once investors are involved and a board of directors is appointed...

Did you buy it yet ??

Just for reference, here's a "free" autocheck (not carfax) for my 6spd:

http://fostermotors.earthcars.net/cg...ya41693a008866

Doesn't have any details just like the free carfax you looked at.
