Arrow Help with used supercharger

Ok guy, going to be installing my supercharger in the next week or so. This is a used supercharger with the high bost pully and three guage A pod. So my question is, what type of maintance should I do prior to install. Ex: change the oil in it, new spark plugs, etc. Also, shy of an intercooler what other upgrades would you all recomed doing while I be doing this install to avoid double labor down the road? Any tips or tricks that you all have delt with as far as install? Finially, if you guys don't mind could you also provide me with web sites or stores when you provide your answers for additional items. Thank you all in advance. Clinton

Number one is change the spark plugs. I did IK 20s, you can get on ebay for like 10 bucks a piece. Mugen thermostat kit helps on heat and is a pain with s/c in. The worst is Alternator when it goes out. pretty much everything else you can work around. Just do a search for thermostat kit if you are interested.

Thanks you two. Any one have the part numbers for the therostat kit. I think King Sport or something like that sells them.....any one else? As for the Thermoblock, I've read a bit on them just havn't seen anything showing them to be anything more than a "see what I've done" type mod. If that makes since.

What about changing the pullies? Is it advised with the with the Hight Boost?

Anyone else with any information requarding maintance of the Supper Charger or helpfully hint would be greatly welcomed.

How many miles are on your car?

I would do as may maintenance items as you can. If you have not added a tranny cooler, I would do that also prior to SC install.

If you do Mugen Mods, do the full coolant change at the same time. Throw in some Redline water wetter and you're set.

Thank you Allout for the great info. Going to order the cooling mods today. Will also be changing to oil in the charger just for piece of mind. Sorry, the kit is also including the tranny cooler, so that is taken care of. As for miles on my car, I just rolled 60,000. So I will be getting the transmition drained and refilled. Just rotated my tires, oil changed with new filter, checked AEM CAI filter, checked cabin filters, topped off all other fluids two weeks ago and had my machanic just take a peek at my belts and what not for safe measure. I think that was everything the stealership was going to do so I should be good.

Also I would invest in a optima 51r battery. This way it has like a 7 year life instead of regular ones. If you have seen where the battery goes then you will understand what I mean.

Don't you need the icebox?

Also, definitely a smaller battery. However, I would steer away from Optima. Check out Odyssey or SVR.

What everyone else said - Tranny cooler, spark plugs, etc. Even if you aren't going the thermoblock route, you may want to yank the manifold - you will be amazed at how filthy it is.

Search for threads started by Scalbert. He documented an install in 3 parts, preserving the ability to drive the car between each phase. This was very helpful to me.

Unless your kit came with the modified fan shroud, you'll have to modify your existing one. I used a roto zip blade chucked in my dremel for this.

Always use a torque wrench

Buy a set of ball end allen wrenches and a flexible shaft driver with a 5mm allen bit, to tighten the screws that hold the blower to the main bracket. This is a PITA, but doable, especially if you temporarily disconnect the upper radiator hose.

You may be able to get the old alternator pulley off with hand tools, but you'll need an impact gun to put the new (double) one on.

The comptech directions, while good, don't always do things in the optimum order. Likewise, I had a small problem because I didn't yank the throttle bodies before I mounted the blower, and then I couldn't get the main one off. CT neglected to mention this step...

Unless the blower has at least 40,000 miles on it, I wouldn't worry about the oil. The service interval is something like 75,000 miles.

Take your time, read lots, make sure you have everything you need. Don't be tempted to rush through it.

Good luck!!

Greetings All,

I also am not convinced of the merits of the "Thermoblock" gaskets for the
CL-S with the comptech blower on my cage. Any more feed back on this would helpful. >>>>>>>>>>>> Anyone, PLEASE. >>>>>>>>>

Best Regards, sq.

There was a guy with s/c accord that had a gauge and was reading 8 degree cooler air at idle and 11 or 15 I cant remember at WOT. Not much of a difference but cooler is better. Its only 100 bucks and probably take an hour to install. Not to bad in my opinion.

My Optima Yellow 51R only lasted 14 months. Others have had premature failures with those too.

Odyssey or relocate to the trunk would be my recommendation too. I went with the Odyssey

Not sure if this will fit on an auto.

Is a tune up necessary afterwards?

I think you have most of the items already covered. As others have mentioned, throw in a fresh set of IK-20 Iridiums and you're good to go.

If you have any warranty issues to deal with, do those before you throw on the blower. Double check that your IMRC is working. If not, get that changed out. The only other thing to consider is doing your valves if they need to be done. Other than that, you're going to replace a ton of stuff when you do your timing belt in another 40K miles anyway.

Not needed but it's definitely more work to get them adjusted after you put your SC on. The SC will have to be removed to adjust the front.
