HELP ME PLEASE, GUYS!!!

I just found out that my air filter on my CAI was not on all the way, but do not know for how long. I think it was not complete came off the intake, but it I think the the was a big enough gap, maybe a 1/4 of the way off the intake, between the air filter and the intake for stuff to suck in. Are there any effect that might happen to my engine and should I have any concern? This all came up when my gas mileage was real low, which I believe was on the effect and doing a routine check up on my car.

i posted the same issue in the Xephyr Performance section. half my intake was off for 2 days max. so far, no visible signs of damage. my father, who's an old-school car buff (60's and 70's know-it-all), said it's one thing to not have the filter on for a couple days, and it's another to not have it for months. keep in mind that our induction system is powerful enough to still suck air from the filter even if the seal has been compromised and there is a small gap. do what i did; put a very thin coat of Vasoline around the rubber seals. i guarantee u will b able to get a better fit (basically, u're eliminating all friction between the 2 pieces of rubber to get the best fit. make sure u tighten that clamp securely enough.

one of my friends told me Vasoline can eat through rubber, but noone seems to verify that claim to date, so lemme throw it out to u guys.

Yeah, didn't you ever hear that you're NOT supposed to use Vasoline as a lubricant when you are "doin the nasty" and "wearin a jimmy" - becuase it's petroleum based, with the friction, it will wear a hole in your rubber! You're supposed to use KY because it's water-based. So, if you don't want to get f**ked when you rubber breaks, DON'T use Vasoline!

I would recommend that you use a silicone sealer that's compatable with rubber on the intake!

fair enough. didn't think there would b play in the rubber since i clamped it down, not to mention attached the front half to the frame and the J-hook attaching the lower half to the frame. i'll get the propper seal tomorrow. thanks for the tip.

I double check the clamp and made sure that it was on tight. In addition, I was lucky that the I missed puncting my filter too. I cut it short enough and that how I actually found that my filter was off.

don't b like me don't use Vasoline, take Ogolden1's advice and use a silicon sealer or KY to reduce the friction between the rubber O-rings. make sure u use a THIN coat, in fact, a VERY THIN coat, as u want some friction, but not too much that it defeats the purpose of using it. make sure u r satisfied the fit is complete, then tighten the clamp. every day, check it out. make sure the fit is still snug. hopefully, this will work.
