Help me pick a car!!!! Urgent!!
OK i was supposed to get a Type-S this Friday but Lindsay Acura has been playing around. Its turns out that the sales lady either lied or was confused, probably the former. Anyway here is my problem. I was offered either:
2002 Acura CL Type-S with Nav (2035 miles ) : $29,750
2003 Acura CL Type-S w/o Nav, Brand New : $29,750
So which one should I go with. I know the 2003 had some changes. DO they both have HID? MOre importantly which do you think will have more trade-in value in a year or less in case I wanted to get a different car? Please help me on this guys. The dealer has already screwed me, and I am gonna demand more money off either car for making me 3+ hours of my time driving to Columbus, OH.

I would definitely go with the tl type S. The resale value is alot better than the cl. The insurance in the tl will be cheaper and plus you get 2 more doors. The Tl has a nice kit wheresas the cl has a very very ugly kit. They both have hid. I just totaled my 02 tl type s and am very happy for what insurance is giving me for it. Is your saleperson Ginny at Lindsay ?

Ya ginny is a nice lady but I honestly wouldnt go for the cl type s. I think you will be much more pleased with a 03 tl type s. The 02 cl is used and has navi. I would much rather have a brand new car than a used cls. The miles might be low but the tls is brand new and you get to break her in. You dont know how the previous owner took care of her. Either one you pick they are both nice cars. Good Luck!!!

The CL type S resale value is dog ish compared to the tls. Their are hundreds on Autotrader with low miles selling for 20 grand while the 02 tls is still around 25k. I just totaled my 02 tl type s and am getting 31k from insurance.

Get the new one!
Forget the post about the CL-S having no resale. The CL-S auto is a dime-a-dozen. The CL-S 6spd IS a limited production car. They won't make it next year. Resale will be very good. Just think of the Acura Legend 6spd from '93 - isn't that a rare find!
About your price. You might be able to get it cheaper. I got my '03 CL-S 6spd with Navi for $30K (that's below invoice) from
Keyes Acura.
I just ordered the Comptech Header... that puts it at nearly 300hp. The superchargers retails at $4500... so figure a couple of discounts and its $3500. What car has close to 400hp, excellent drivability and interior, and costs $35K?
I ever so nearly paid $38K for a g35C. Glad I didn't!!

Resale value is better on the TL. I got a 03 TL-P loaner and was very impressed. I think if you went with a 4 door, just get the TL-P. The 4 door is more of a luxury car and the regular engine has more than enough power.
If you want the CL-S, get the one with the Nav. I have had quite a few owner of CL-S look in my car and say, "I wish I had bought with the Nav..." Don't worry about the re-sale value too much if you are going to keep the car. The ones that moan about re-sale value are the ones that sell within a year of buying their cars.
IMHO.

I bought Jesals type S about 2 months ago for 26,000. He hooked me up. I am now pocketing about 5 grand since 500 deductible and I only owe 25,677. My insurance company is Westfield and they are a good insurance company in my book until I get dropped in 6 months.

2002 w/ navi....ALWAYS GO NAVI!!! get a 2003 onlyif you are getting the six speed. Otherwise there is no difference whatosover. Nothing important atleast. The NAVI is a great thing to have. I will get a navi in my next car.

Besides the availability of the 6-speed, the differences are small. Maybe auto-up driver's window is the best part. I like the clear/red tailights, but that's preference and may depend on the color (I like it on blue). Lack of lame fogs on the '03, different wheels.
And fugget about the TL noise. They don't understand that if you want a coupe, adding doors doesn't mean you get more for your money.

So, no you don't get more for your money really. You get a car with better value in the long run.

I would see if you can switch to Al as the sales person at Lindsey or go to Columbus Acura with those numbers and see what they can do for you, they may be willing to go cheaper.

The way to go is the 2003. First of all, the 2002 is probably a demo, which means it has been beat. The navi will only be a selling feature a couple of years or so down the road. You wouldn't see as much value as the newer model year. Oh, and make sure you buy the Acura EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!!

That '02 is way too much money. That car is used and they are making you pay the full $2000 for Navi when in reality it only nets you about $750 on resale after a year or two and $500 after that.
Tell them to drop the '02 price $1250 and buy the '02.

29750? hoyl crap! you're gettin' ripped man... I paid 28350 for my '03 CLS... don't pay more than invoice... the CLS is a hard car to sell right now... they just want to get rid of as many as they can off their lot...

In my honest opinion, go drive the G35 sedan before you buy this car. You will notice how much smaller the G35 is and how akward it is to operate the seat controls. The G35 sedan will give you a good indication of how the coupe will be size wise. I've driven then G35 sedan and while its nice, I like my CL-S much better.
With any 'new car' you're going to take a bath when it comes to resale value within 12 months. The only way around that is to put a huge chunk of change down up-front.
If you're just buying this car to tide you over till you can get the car you really want, then why throw your money away on a new car?
If you don't HAVE to buy a car, just wait until the G35 coupe hits the scene and then decide from there.

Ask yourself these questions.
1. Six speed or not (You can only get a '03 six speed)
2. What color (If you want Anthracite it is only available on the '03)
I would always say to go for the navi. If you just want an automatic go for the '02 and talk them down considerably. If it is a demo model you will be the first owner so they will sell it to you as a "new" car for all that that is worth (I doubt that this is the case though because demo models are usually sold at 5K miles). Since it has miles on it already MAKE THEM GIVE YOU A 100K warranty (see Acura Ceritified used cars). I bought my '01 CL-S with Navi used with 8K miles for $27K out the door in '01. Talk them down to $28K out the door with the 100K warranty and you will be getting a great deal! If it's a six speed or anthracite color you want, go with the '03. Honestly, buying a "new" car is OVERATED! Let the initial owner pay for some of the deprciation.
And if the loan is ready, you really have them where you want them. They know you have the money buy it, all they have to do is make the deal. You can always get another loan at another dealership.

The key there was "if you want a coupe..." What I was getting at is if you want a coupe, buy a coupe. I like coupes. No way I was getting the TL. I didn't even test drive the Audi A4 cuz it had too many doorz. I would have told my gf to get the TL though (if she hadn't gotten impulsive and bought the S60, which she regrets every time she gets in my car), cuz she's not me.
Likewise, if I'd gotten the 330, it would have been the ci. No brainer there--the coupe looks way better than the sedan. Interestingly, the 3 series coupes seem to have better resale than the sedans...
But if it's any consolation, the CL is easy to get a discount on (at least that was true a year or so ago, when the TLs weren't discounted).
