Help me modify ...

I just purchased my first CLS, a Black 2002, and I'm looking to add a few mod's. In all your "expert" opinions, what would be one iof the first things you would do or have done. I was thinking about the axle-back exhaust from CompTech for starters.
I'm not mechanically inclined, what is the deal with everyone adding headers and intakes ?? You'll have to excuse my ignorance

Let me know what you think .....

Thanks

How do you know how far to lower it.
I thought about that, maybe about an inch or so ??

The Comptechs lower the car just right in my opinion, about 1.5 in front, and 1.0 in the rear. Sways are a great first mod for handling, better tires make a huge difference also. The intake adds some power and sounds great. Headers are pricey, but add alot in the top end of the rev range. Have fun, and good luck.

Depends on what you want to improve: handling, power, or looks.

Power: A cold-air intake is a pretty easy first upgrade. If I can do it, anyone can. (Even Amir!) I love my AEM.

Handling: Sway bars and tires. The sways are harder to do yourself, but people swear by 'em. I've bought some myself, just haven't had a chance to get them put on yet. I was gonna do it myself, but now I think I'll find a speed shop to do it for me.

Looks: Lowering, Zaino or BlackIce polish, and new bulbs all around.

Do a search on here for some of these things, right after you read the FAQ.

BTW, welcome to the board!

Hey all, thanks for all the advice, I will take it all into consideration. The first thing I want to do is get the stock/chrome 17's and go from there. Then I guess the Comptech Exhaust and then the "sways" and have it lowered.

Sypher .... you have a black CLS, do you have any pics showing any of the mods that you have done ?? If so, I would like to see them. My CLS is black also.

Also, has anyone that has the Comptech exhaust ... did you have the dealer do the install or some other shop ??

Thanks again everyone for all your help, and the great welcomes. You all have been great resources !!!!

All I've done is the intake so far, so pics don't help a whole bunch. I'm planning to tint the windows this summer, so I'll try to take pics then. Until then, all you can see from me are stock pics... and a Valentine-1 radar detector.

if i were giving advice on mods id say tires first... add chrome to one of the heaviest 17's on the planet..not me,but to each his own
springs 200-300$
then cold air intake 300$ or less
sways about 300$
RES (when available...do a search)300$+
MMII( see above)100+
headers 1000$ big bucks
light weight wheels 1500-2000$
if you were to the above you would have a car capable of high 13 sec 1/4's and looked pimp all with wonderful daily driving attributes
btw notice i left off exhaust..you do what you want...but comp exhaust gives about 3 hp the cl-s already comes with sport tuned high flow cans

I think you might want to consider getting the HKS exaust, too. I love mine and you can save about 150 to put towards comptech springs. Also another alternative to installing a cold air intake is to get the comptech (uni) drop in filter. I have that and like it because its easy to install and clean. Its not quite the same as changing to new cold air intake but its about a 1/4 the cost and does make a difference.
