i just got an 01 cl-s with 59k miles on it and now the check engine light is on, i know its in the man. that it means 7500 overdue on sched. matenance but do i have to bring it to the dealer(any benefit except paying a lot) or should i just do all the suggested things myself? thank you for any help!!!!!

 

go to autozone or advance auto parts, they can do a diagnostics test for FRIZEEE (free) where your dealership will charge you a diag fee of usually 100 big ones.

 

They probably just forgot to reset the maintanance button after it was last serviced before you bought it. On my old Civic you just held in the select button when you had your key in the on position and after a few seconds the light would go off and reset. I'm not sure if it's the same for our CLs.

 

Maintinance light and check engine light have nothing to do with each other.

yea sorry it was the maintenance light, it was bliking for the tensecopnds mentioned in the manual so i guess thats when your a certain mileage over and it stays on after 7500 miles over. it was blinking and now its on fully so i guess i have to get it in also since i have no way to tell when it was last oil changed i should get it in anyway.

also i had heard there was a few things covered under 60k miles but my car seems perfect. is it worth it to bring it to dealer or will they tell me some bs that they wanna charge me for. ive read all about the tranny problems though so should i have it checked just in case or if there was a problem would i be very aware of it?

 

With the switch "Off", hold the Reset button and the button above it (or below it) both down then turn the ign switch on (dont turn the engine on) just on position and hold for 10 seconds, the maint. light will turn off.

 

The buttons to hold down are both the "Select" and the "Reset" for 10 seconds

 

If its the check engine light thats on, then I think you can unplug the battery and that should reset the check engine light problem, not sure, but you can try it.

 

yea its just the scheduled maintenance light, just called dealership they want 375$ to rotate tires do oil change and change tranny fluid?! i can do all this myself except do they flush the tranny or just change the fluid at 60k miles or is there even a difference????? can i get the tranny fluid they use there anywhere else or just from the dealer? its the only one i can use right? atf z or one or somehting? what do i need to do to do this scheduled maintenance by myslef..just buy the fluid and let the old fluid out and put the new in?-or is this the process involving the "pump"(for lack of better word) that i have heard people say the dealer uses to get the fluid out of the tranny?(is that right?im not even sure)

Also, I've learned out of warranty, not to go to the dealer unless it's a basic oil change or something. The rest of it can be done at any trusted local shop. My maintenance light just went on recently, even though I got my oil changed 3,000 miles ago, when it states 7,500 or whatever the Acura claim is. That's the only thing I'll take it to the dealer for.

PS. If you happen to be in the Albany area and know a good shop, let me know so I can bring my car there instead of Acura (I'm from NJ, go to school up here), because I don't know anywhere

 

Yea I Actually Live In Albany And Just Got The Car On Rt 46 In New Jeresey Im Sure You Know It Is Legendary For People Who Live Down Ther To Get Cars In That Are I Guess.

Any Way So You Only Go For Oil Changes? Y Oil Change? Y Not Do It Yourself? Yea My Buddy Owns A Shop And I Would Just Assume Use Him , He Is Younger Than Most But Has Always Done Me Right (with Beaters Anyway And Oil Changes, You Know Small Stuff). Yea If Its Just Oil Change And Tranny Fluid Change And Tire Rotation Ill Take It To Him And It Wont Be So Crazy Expensive.
