Help: Icebox Problem
I am having a problem with my Icebox. I had it installed by a local Comptech Dealer about 3K miles ago. Comptech recommends servicing the filter with each oil change. So I tried to open the box for the first time to service the filter, but the front screw holding the cover down just spins in place. Therefore I cannot remove the lid.
I already placed a call to Comptech but haven't received a response yet.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so, what did you do? Did you get Comptech involved? What was their response?
I am hoping that Comptech will send me a new box, but that still means a bunch of labor to take out the old one. Plus I will probably have to destroy the lid on the old one to get it out.

If the screw is stripped then you should be able to lift it straight off if the other screws are out. I am assuming that you have tried this. It is a plastic cover....give the cover a tug. My last time it was awkward but it worked but I didn't have a problem with any screws. I am assuming by spin in place you mean that your screwdriver hooks up but there are no threads as opposed to the screw driver just spinning in the top of the screw that is still....screwed in....in which case you are @#$%ed.
I don't know what I'd do then.

Try putting a small slotted screwdriver under the head of the screw and pry the screw out while unscrewing it. That always works for me in situations like this (tho i haven't had any trouble with my Icebox).

The entire screw turns, but doesn't back out of the hole. The problem is that there is a threaded insert in the base of the assembly that the screw engages. That threaded insert appears to be turning freely so the screw cannot release itself from the insert. Unfortunately where the box is mounted, it is not easy to get any other tools in there to assist in this effort.

Cartan .. my installers had the same problem just trying to find the threaded insert when they installed my icebox...
i don't envy you.. i'll have to clean and re-oil my air filter pretty soon as well. I'd wait to hear from Comptech ... they're responsible for the poor design .. lemme know how it goes

try taking off your bumper and seeing if the threaded part simply came out of the hole. and if not, from the front you should be able to grab the threaded collar and remove the screw. I just installed mine the other day.
