HELP!! I think my car is screwed!!!

ok 2 days ago it was raining really hard... i drove my car kuz i had to get home.. I got a cai with no bypass valve. well on the way home my car started to rev from 0-2500 rpm by itself in neutral... so i pulled over and checked the filter it was WET... so i dried it off with a towl and continued on the way... the car reving and all.. i stopped 3 times to dry it off. when i got home the check engine light came on.. shit!!! ok i left it there all day yesterday in the garrage... today i turned it on and its still reving!! and the check engine light is on... am i FUCKED? what should i do or is there a way to reset it? someone told me that i need to rev the engine a few times to burn off the water?

Take the instake off, and see if anything got trapped in the throttle body. That could cause the symptoms you are describing.

Hydrolock wouldnt cause the engine to rev on its own.

If you think your engine took in some water, just let your car sit a few hours until the engine is cold then change your oil. Look at the color of the oil when you drain it. If it looks like light brown mud coming out, you ingested quite a bit of water in your engine. Just drain all fluids and fill.

However, your symptoms do sound like there's something stuck in the TB. My car was flooded about 3 weeks ago. I just drained the fluids and flushed the engine a few times. It's running just like it was. I hope it's nothing serious.

That shit happened to me in my 96 V6 accord. And you will know when there is hydrolock. I will recommend you checking your oil before driving. If the oil is a milky color then water has gotten into the motor and you are fucked. If not then you will probably be ok. Also when it is ideling check for any sounds or unusual knocking like rod bearings might have been slung.

Just checked on the car Oil looks fine... Its dark so i do need an oilchange... i took off the CAI and checked the throttle body and it had droplets of water on it. i used a blow dryer and dried it off. I started the car and it still reved so i was like shittt. i took i out for a drive and ran hit hard a couple of times hitting vtec to attempt to burn off any excess water in there. that worked! its no longer reving.. it feels the same driving now cept the check engine light is on. I just disconnected the battery in hopes that it will reset itself when i do plug it back in. Anything Else i should check on? or is it a good idea to put the stock air intake on there and take it to the dealer?

I think something else is wrong with your car. Maybe a bad sensor or something. Can you check the code in the computer? Simply driving through heavy rain with a CAI without a bypass will not harm a thing. The filter getting wet is normal. Any water that gets sucked from a wet filter is not going to damage anything. To see damage the filter has to be surmerged, & the engine would have to ingest alot of water to lock.

Maybe you have a hole in the filter from one of those plastic clips in the lower splashguard.

Water in oil would make the oil look milky in parts of it as it comes out.

Wow, you are brave. I would be scared to start the car, let alone run it hard. But glad to hear that it worked. Now go to Autozone and have them scan the code for ya.

Good luck.

It is your IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). I had the same problem when I put my CAI in. The part cost about $95.00 and tkes about 30-45 min. to replace. The Acura dealer wanted to charge $300.00+

That's got to be a relief.. Glad things are running ok now.. I always thought if you put the bypass on that it basically had the same performance of a short ram..

Glad it's working again, and I had the same concerns of water when I bought my CAI, but from what I hear, the whole filter would have to be submerged in water long enough for the engine to suck up a decent amoutn of water to cause any problems.
