yeah, i am assuming it happend in my apartment parking lot,...i doubt it has cameras....this is what happened:

went to an appointment at 12pm, got back around 1pm, chilled out, left hte house again around 3pm...and thats when i noticed it...

i'm takin it in for an estimate tomorrow, but there doesn't seem to be any major dents, so maybe they can just buff it out and repaint it or someting...aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh....I HATE PPL THAT DO THIS CRAP....im goin to look all aroudn the parking lot tonite for a white/blue color car that may have some black paint on it...

It doesn't look dented, but hard to tell by the picture. I would guess the whole bumper has be repainted. The black is a pearl color...I'd guess less then $ 200.00.

I have only had rear bumper problems and the replacement with paint and labor ran about 500 in massachusetts. Estimates were 501-546. I imagine the repair work quoted a new bumper as well. I am not surprised about the 850 price tag.

This past year I had to outlay about 800 for hit and runs.

nope, it did not include a 'new' bumper...just repair of hte current bumper....if it included a 'new' bumper, then, i guess $850 isnt too bad....but since it doesnt, i think the estimate is really high.

I have just pain on the rear bumper as well. The bumper was ok they had to prep and paint it. That was 300.

I know they have to blend the paint so there might be some over spray to the hood. That would drive up the cost as well.

Someone did the same thing to my Black first gen CL. It was a silver paint on the front bumper and there was no dent. I took it to my friends shop and he took it off with some sort of wax (Sorry, I don't remember exactly what he used). It was a 5 minute job, No charge. Unless the paint is cracked or there is a dent, a body shop could do it quickly and cheap or you could do it yourself.

I almost hate to say this, but pay the whole amout out-of-pocket. It's not worth an insurance claim for $850 with a $500 deductible. Put it on a credit card if you have to and spread it out, but I'd just pay for it myself if I were you.

Insurance companies are getting too jittery with rate raises and dropping people lately. If you can take care of it yourself, do so. A $250 benefit is not worth the potential fallout on your insurance.

Just my 2 cents, anyway. Sorry about your car. Glad I have a garage!

yeah, i'm gonna try to find a place that will do the work for around ~$500 (which si my deducitble) so i dont have to make a claim against insurance for only $350....its not worth it to have them jack my rates up....

but then again, waht is the point of payin for insuracne if u dont use it?...tough luck i guess....i've only had this policy for 3 days, starting 1/1 and this b.s happend on 1/4...

dam the person that hit me and ran....FUCK!

Use it when you really need it. For $1500 in work, I'd file with Insurance. For a $850, I wouldn't. It's not worth the risk. The more you file, the more likely you are for raised rates (being an increased "risk") or for getting dropped.

Also, I wouldn't search for the best bargain. You'll probably regret it. Go somewhere good and recommended, not the place with the best price. I'm sure Earl Shibe (do you have those in CA???) would do it for less than $500, but you'll hate it.

IMO, judging by your pic, I see paint that could possibly be hand buffed/waxed out within the bumper, the edge of the fender is probably out of line, can't tell in the pic, I see a little scratch on the edge of the light housing. If it were me, and I was hard up on cash, I would wax that s%^t out and roll on, your car is black, so it makes it harder to see the inperfections within the body panels, at night at least. But I know it bothers you, look at it this way, any good body shop is gonna cost $$, they don't do s%^t for $300 anymore, its not worth it to them, at least not out here in Cali, they will always tell you more is wrong with it, to get that profit margin up higher for them. Especially if they know insurance is paying for it.

If it bothers you that much, pay that deductible, then find every other inperfection that bothers you on the car (door dings, scratches, etc), work those into the price, tell the body shop that you choose to pay yourself, then tell your insurance you want the check after you give them the estimate, that way you can pay the shop yourself. This way you can get maybe $1200 worth of work done for $500, you feel me?

I know its what makes all of our insurance go up for those that wanna bitchand wine, but f^&k it, you pay for it each month, get the most out it and make it work for you, the insurance and people who wine don't give a damn about you and you car, so you should. Whats the point of having "Uninsured motorist coverage" if you don't even use it? And if your rates go up a little, hell, whats $15 more a month in your premium for quality work done on your baby? Insurance companies are betting on you being scared to claim, it saves them from spending money. I don't about you, but I am not trying to save them any money.

Somebody keyed the whole side of my CL 4 months after I had it in a parking lot, body shop quoted me $850, deductible was $500, waited a few more months cause I didnt have the cash, lowered my deductible to $250, then claimed it as vandalism, worked in bumper scratches and 2 door dings, got $1300 worth of quality work done for only $250, what a deal got to love this state, its all about the money and if I am contributing to the insurance problems, so be it, I have'nt had an accident in years and I pay insurance on 3 vehicles, I am not about to be one of those people on the freeway with the nice ride all beat up cause I am too scared to call my insurance, f^&k that, I pay for it, I want my moneys worth....Oh yeah, my rates never went up either, maybe cause I am such a good long term customer.

Peace

Or, you never made any other claims. Long-term customers don't mean a damned thing to insurance customers. You can get raised rates or dropped altogether with too many claims in a short period of time no matter how long you've been with them. And since the insurance industry has taken a big hit due to certain events in 2001, some are really being nasty about it. The prevailing wisdom on this, which was even told to me by one of our customers (an insurance broker), was DON'T make a claim for small stuff unless you absolutely must. $850 is small stuff.

I'm not saying he shouldn't use his insurance, but not for $850 in damage and a $500 deductible. I like your idea of finding other damage, however, and rolling it all in together. That's what "Comprehensive" is for, afterall.

is hit/run considered comprehensive or collision?

mercury insurance considers it collision cuz a vehicle was moving (even though mine was parked) and caused impact to my car....

mercury told me comprehensive is vandalism and theft....

any thoughts on this?

Comprehensive is whatever's not covered by another category, by my understanding. Even though there's evidence of an impact, there's no other car present. Damage could also be caused by a shopping cart or other free-rolling item in a parking lot, which would be covered under comprehensive, not collision.

That's my understanding, at least. I'm not an insurance guy, so...

It may depend on your insurance company's own definitions.

$850 is definitely way too much. I just had an accident and my damage was a lot worse Link .. And I was originally quoted $870, and was able to talk them down to $750 ... I ended up not claiming insurance either cuz its considered collision under my insurance as well and the deductible is $500 ... My insurance agent even told me I'd be screwed if I claimed it ... Good luck with yours!!!
