help! got pulled over
help! got pulled over
I got pulled over for having tint on my front windows. They are 35%. I went online to check for the tint law here in California and it said, must allow more than 70% of light in. So i got a fixing ticket. Any suggestions on how to get my ticket signed without removing my tint? Thanks in advance.
well i think there might be a chance that these are only 30% which should be legal right?! it just makes it look darker because, i have a black interior. I dont think that cops knows that front windows are legal as long as it's allowing 70% light. What are my chances with telling an offer that my tint is legal?
I got into the same situation a few months back. I just ended up getting my fronts removed, got the ticket signed off and redid the tints with 50 percent.
If you dont want to get the tint off, then just pay the fine. it was like 135 or something for me. I chose to pay the removal, processing fee, and retinting which costs me about 60 total.

yeah there is no such thing as zero% tint. i thought that was the weirdest thing when i was in cali. does it matter what the rear widows are? it looked silly seeing cars with limo tint on rear doors but nothing on front. but then like in your case, id see some cars with light tint on the front doors.
dont you have an option to just pay the fine?

You've got it backwards. Your so-called 35% tint only allows 35% of the light through. So if it was 30% tint, that would be 5% worse - not better.
You would have to have 70% or higher tint to be legal - and at 70%, you could read a damn book if you were on 1 side of the car, and someone held it up on the other side (with the windows rolled up and you both on the outside of course)
As for looking for a way to not remove the tint - there really isn't one. You may get lucky and find a 1 time shot, but there is no fool-proof way around it. You can always remove the tint and replace it, or just pay the fine and leave it.
I do have an option just to pay the fine but it's actually gonna cost more than what I originally paid for to tint all of my windows. Also that might mess up my insurance I think. as far as I might receive points for them.
not if u know cops that can write them off like hot cakes!
...i actually just got mine tinted .... 15% back and rear windshield... 35% up front.....
....im from san francisco tho..so they dont give a damn...

The law used to be no foreign matter of any kind may be on the window which technically meant if it is dirty you are illegal.
I don't know if that changed but that was the law in L.A. County.

They used to bust out the meter on me when I'd get pulled over for it. It's always a fix it ticket and I'd just pay the fine each time. $10 per illegal window. That meant $40 each time since I can have the back window as dark as I want.
fixit ranges i think. first time i got a no front plate ticket from a cop was $45....then i got one from DPT which was $100...either way i had them written off without doing anything.... but there is still a $10 processing fee....

From the CHP site:
Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
1. The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
2. If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

It basically says you can have clear uv protection only.

well i have seen a few green headlights in my area(they're ugly),as well as the darkest tints you can imagine(in the front) it seems like our police dont care or else this woldnt be happening, you will probably get a ticket for it if he or she catches you for a diffrent reason, like reckless driving etc, then maybe he'll take that in consideration,maybe...we have many teenagers here and they have done every illegal thing in the book...so guess depends on the police department really
