Thumbs up Hello everyone

Hey guys (and girls),

This is my first post, I picked up an 03 CL-S a couple of weeks ago. I was doing some searching online and found this site. I previously had a 1994 Camry coupe V6. It wasn't the flashiest or fastest car around, but it did give me 12+ yrs and 150K+ just about trouble free miles so I will never say anything bad about that car. Unfortunately it was totaled a little over a month ago so I went car shopping. I was tempted to buy a Solara but I'm not that crazy about the styling and did want to try something different. Years ago I had a 1987 Monte Carlo SS and an 1989 Iroc-Z 350. I went from the Monte to the Iroc because I wanted more power, but the Iroc was nothing but trouble. I had more electrical problems that I'll mention here. I got disgusted and that's when I bought the Camry. For my new wheels I had it narrowed down to either a new Accord V6 coupe or a slightly used CL. I would have loved to by a new CL but as you all know that isn't an option. I did test drive the RSX and it was ok, but I felt cramped inside. The Accord was very nice, but after driving the CL it was obvious what I wanted. I always liked the look of them, I probalby would have bought one years ago but the Camry was so damn reliable and trouble free I could never justify getting rid of it until that decision was made for me! I guess everything happens for a reason. I loved my old Monte Carlo and it will always have a special place in my heart, but I have to say the CL reminds me of that car on steroids! As you can probably tell from my handle, I got an 03 black CL-S. It has every option except for the navigation system and has 44K on it. I love it so far and I think I get just about or maybe even a little better gas mileage than the Camry got. That's impressive considering I went from a 3L 188hp engine to a 3.2L 260hp engine. I did buy it certified from a dealer and paid for the extra bumper to bumper warranty so I'm covered until Nov 09 or I hit 100K. I hope this post wasn't too long, just wanted to say hello and give everyone a little info.

Thanks. I went with the automatic. If it was going to be a 2nd car I would only be driving for fun on the weekends I would have gotten the 6sp, but for a daily driver I went for the auto.

Blitz, not quite sure what you're talking about? I think I got quite a bit of car for the money I spent and I'm not planning on doing any customizing other than perhaps some different wheels and tires.

i beleive that's exactly what he's talking about...I didn't plan on customizing mine all that much either and here i am about a year later with headers, exhaust, coilovers, big brake kit, etc. Good luck with just getting wheels/tires. With that said, welcome to Acurazine and congrats on your new purchase!

And there you have it. Testimony. I think we all know what good value you got. That's not what I mean. Trying to JUST get wheels will be difficult though. Whatever you do....you'll love the car even more.

Thanks guys, I understand exactly what you're talking about now. After doing some "research" online I found all kinds of aftermarket ideas, perhaps some headers could be in my future along with the wheels.

Don't forget about the suspension. Don't do wheels without suspension..

Transmission?

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think I'll be doing anything for awhile. I do have a question about the transmission. It seems as if quite a few people have had problems. Does anyone know what the failure rate is? I did some looking around online and saw 2% and 7% mentioned. Does anyone know what the real deal is? Are all or most of them going to fail, or are the majority of them going to be ok?

Funny how everyone starts out with "I'm only planning to do such and such..." and then months later... =) Welcome!
