headlight modding to come!

sometime in the near future I'm going to be cracking open my headlights and do a few things.

firstly I'll be taking out the orange reflectors and putting in chrome bulbs where the orange bulbs were. but that's nothing special.

I'm also going to be doing an HID projector conversion on the high beams. Which is cool, but it's been done a number of times too.

My more creative/difficult plan is to fabricate, a custom shroud that rounds out the semi-rectangle low beam area, because I hate the shape of it, and because I'm thinking about doing some angel eyes.

Now, I do have a couple questions though.
firstly, I was able to figure out that the top signal light is an 1157 bulb, but what's the bottom ones?

Secondly, some people say TSX projectors are the best, but some (like Lippstuh I think) say that the infinity ones are better... what do you think

I'm sure I'll have a few more questions soon enough. Thanks in advance guys!

I prefer TSX projectors, or even the S2000 projectors.

I was actually considering doing all those mods to my headlights

But more specifically the low beam rounded. I got in an accident a while back and had to replace a head light so I had a spare one. I decided to get some fiber glass and make a roundish case. It worked awsome but when I put a light in it hardly any light came out. So this was my delima where are you going to get a cone shaped refltive piece to aim the head light and project the light. I have since aborted this project but I look at every car that goes by looking for a part I can use.Im really interested in what you come up with!!

But since your doing the projector any way, why dont you use that as the high beam and fiber glass around it.

Ive also seen someone do 2 projectors in a Malibu and paint everthing else Black looked cool

Keep us posted

From all my research and talking to professional companies that do that mods.

TSX's have the best bang for the buck and have excellent flicker and cut off.

S2k's are better...but more expensive.

I currently have a set of tsx projectors cut and fit into my housings as we speak. I can give you some advice if you need it. I choose the tsx projectors because well they choose me. My friend had an extra set and he owed me a favor. We cracked the lights open almost 3 weeks ago.

I'm still working on them or I would have posted pics already. I haven't had enough free time. I will probably start a new thread because I have a feeling that you guys are gonna really like them. I did try something "new" with them. I still have to clean them up and re-seal them. Also got to finish some wet-sanding. Maybe a teaser pic is in order?

Im kinda curious as to why you would make the high-beams into projectors and not your low-beams?

Maybe he's doing both?

Don't you guys think that it looks off with just the low beam projector and not them both?

good, I'm not a fan of the actual BMW halos.

and wow... I walked away half way through writing the original post... I thought I had already put that the round plate is a mounting plate for a second projector eventually... I just dunno If I can afford two sets right now.

I just realized that I'm going to need to buy three sets of projectors over time.

Highs
Lows
Fogs

I think it actually looks fine with just the low beam if you have a nice shroud and everything.

I'm still waiting to hear about this "rounded housing" idea

see even though it may not be like everyone to want to do it/like it, I think the perfect type of "Headlight conversion" would be to retrofit projectors onto the lowbeams and put the "angel eyes" around JUST the highbeam reflector housing (since its the only circular part in the housing).

e39 and e43 are too small in my opinion, I went through 3 sets of d2s projectors before landing on TSX projectors, I couldn't be happy enough, and the cutoff is incredible

I would go with TSX projos. Best bang for the buck imo. I till need a D2S hid kit to tell you about the cutoff but I'm pretty sure my cutoff is gonna be f*cked due to last minute rushing...
