HEADERS (do you really notice a difference?)

i am looking at getting a set of headers for my cl i was looking at the forums and i have seen people saying just change the header the stock exhaust is fine. do you notic a difference in power with after market headers? i mean for $1,100 you better. or should i just buy the axel back from comptech?

Yes they make a BIG difference.
Yes the XS make 20+ WHP gain. Many dyno's to back this up.
CT is quality, that is what your paying for. The XS isn't the best quality, but they are cheap & get the job done with just about = power gain.
I've had XS on for almost 3 years now.
The axle back or any exhaust is mainly for looks & sound. If your deciding on the 2, headers will make you happier.

look get the xs headers. trust me as soon as i had my headers installed i jumped on the highway and i could instantly feel the gains. they really are 20whp and there only like $100. they were the best investment possible for my car. your only going to get a couple hp from an axle back exhaust. you must not have read good cause there plenty of threads that talk about headers and there gains.

Don't go cheap when it comes to your car. Just get the comptech headers and full cat back.

werd... there are a lot of stories about cracked xs headers and what not. basically, you'll get what you pay for.

the headers do an important job for the car, why not get the best?

$1000 vs $100 for the same gain. i say just get the xs headers unless you want to pay another $900 for a brand name theres plenty of people on who havent had any problems i think i read about one or two who had a problem.

Oh really? Funny I've only heard of 1 story of a cracked XS header in 3 years.

"lol 20 whp i wish for that little"

i used to think like that. HP gains are not so easy to get when sticking to N/A, and especially for this car when not many parts are available compared to others!!! CT claims 32whp gain max. YOU WILL FEEL IT!!! i felt it and i have a cl-p. buy comptech, the quality lasts forever, and you have leverage with the resale value.

get any headers, they are infact the best mods for the CL, period [except FI]!!!!

your search failed you

you're right comptechs are expensive, so buy used.

you can have mine for $800 shipped, what do you say?

oh and they last forever, you get what you pay for.

headers will improve 20-30 hp on the car and if you have a CL-S then its much more effective then mufflers since they only give you a few. our stock set up is already pretty good. if you live in a place that requires CARB numbers or have enough money then used/new comptechs are good. If you need CARB numbers but dont wanna spend that much then DC headers are next. and finally if you must have headers then XS headers are good for the price but no CARB numbers. not a problem in some states. the XS headers are cheap but quite good quality. it maybe a surprise but yes headers do give our cars a significant improvement

yes listen to the man! lol

anyway, he probably said it best so far. another fact is after you buy headers, you'll be modding the hell out of your CL looking for that pleasure the headers give you which you will never find unless FI. so just spend the money in the 1st place...

I've been looking at some XS headers. How do you know if, where you live, needs CARB #s?? I'm in Ontario, i don't even know where to look. We have to go for emissions testing every few years....i'm guessing they might need it for that?

CARB is a US thing. California, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington and Oregon all require CARB compliant equipment. New Jersey will require them beginning in Model Year 2009, and Maryland will require them beginning in model year 2011.

It's mostly the coastal states, as you can see above. I am getting DCs for the CARB cert. It's worth the extra $400 or so to get a little more reliable build quality (now that they have 3-bolt flanges), and so that if I move back to the East Coast I won't have issues.

I originally tried to buy them from ssautochrome.com but the order never went through. I don't know why??? So I ordered from xs-power.com instead but it was priced at $115 at the time. now it's $178 for international order! Good news is ssautochrome still list it at $88 so I'd try there before xspower.

To the original poster, save the money and buy other mods like pulley and suspension. +$1000 on headers it is just piping.
